Such hatred. I've always loved Sonic CD. I'll admit it's mostly because of the soundtrack and my bias towards anything on the Sega CD, but I don't think there is a sonic game I have played as much and as frequently as Sonic CD.

I remember playing this on Gamecube as part of Gems Collection. Always thought it was alright, but still not as good as Sonic 2/3 to me. Might still pick this up if it goes on sale, though.

Sonic CD definitely went in a different direction than Sonic 2, focusing more on exploration, and the time travel aspect.
While I found both of these fun, it also meant that if you were trying to get a good future by going to the past, you were going to do a lot of hunting, which pretty much cut out a lot of the speed in favor of platforming.
That all being said, I still like Sonic CD BECAUSE of how different it is from all the other Sonic games.

I disagree Jim, thought it was great. Not among the best, but well worthy a port. Now, if Sega could get on that Knuckles Chaotix port some damn day I'd be glad.

I actually played this for the first time recently, and besides the opening, there really wasn't much that wowed me. I might pick this up since I played it on an emulator using a keyboard (and if Super Meat Boy has taught me anything, you never play a platformer with a keyboard) to give it a fair chance, but on the topic of the best Sonic game, I'd go with Sonic3 & Knuckles.

Well, Jim, thank you for your opinion. Sonic CD is still one of my fave and many retro Sonic fans think too. If you don't like it, then don't buy it :P

If you're a Sonic fan it's worth checking out, just don't expect Sonic 2.5. It plays, looks, sounds, and feels completely different from all the Genesis games.

Considering the level design is more complex than any other game in the series, I will always prefer this over any other game in the series. It's just too damn good to overlook.
I gotta kind of agree with Jim on this. I've only played a bit on this game, but it does look a lot like someone other than Sega tried to make a Sonic game. Though I would say the same about Sonic 4, which feels and looks like some crappy flash Sonic game.

I only got a chance to play it like three or four times before my Sega CD died. God what an awful add-on. Of course, then I didn't learn my lesson and actually bought the 32x which had no support. Never bought any Sega hardware ever that. (Though maybe that has more to do with never even hearing of the Saturn outside of some GamePro ads)

It's sad that you cant appreciate the beauty of this game. I didn't get to play it until Gems Colelction came out, but I quickly fell in love with the concept. You can play through the game normally and finish it and thats a fairly average experience, but the real fun is to go into the past and destroy Eggmans robot generator, and then find a path to get you into the future so you can enjoy a nice and easy run through the futuristic paradise you have created.
You're a butt for not liking this game, but that's okay. It's still better than most of the other sonic games.

Sonic 1 was good, Sonic 2 made many gameplay and design advancements and was great (and S3&K improved on that even further), Sonic CD completely ignored everything that came from 2 and was decent at best (aAlthough the opening and ending(s) to CD were amazing).
Holy hell people are riding this games dick. Sonic CD is awful... But so is Sonic 4 so whatever.
