Sonic Anniversary revealed, remaking classic Sonic levels photo

A Spanish Sega representative has confirmed in Europe that a brand new Sonic game is being developed to coincide with the iconic hedgehog's twentieth anniversary. Fittingly called Sonic Anniversary, the game is set to remake a selection of levels from the mascot's two decades of games.

Said to include a mixture of 2D and 3D environments, it would seem that Sonic Anniversary intends to collect and reimagine the very best stages in Sonic history. Each level will be "updated" for modern consoles, and the game is planned to launch on PS3, Wii, DS and PSP. An Xbox 360 release has not yet been announced, but it's highly improbable that Sega will skip it.

As of right now, Sega hasn't made an official announcement, but quotes have been attributed to Sega marketing director Izaskun Urretabizkaia and the sleuths among the Sonic fan community are convinced this is legit stuff. Besides which, it's Sega, and a reimagined "best of" game is exactly that company's modus operandi.

So, assuming this is exactly what people say it is ... are you interested in what Sonic Anniversary seems to be offering?

Well... that could make the "fans" shut the hell up for a while.

I think.

Hope.

Looks like Sonic is finally making a comeback, with 4 coming out next week and the anniversary next year.

This will either be awesome or just shit all over classics because Sega doesn't know when to fucking let sonic take a break.

It will be bad because Sega will make his legs green and his eyes too long.

Sounded great the first time I heard it, but I think I'll not be boarding the hype train this time around. Or the anti-hype train. Or any train for that matter.

I thought trains were supposed to be relaxing rides ...

I don't think the 360 could handle it.

I'm sure this Sonic game will use at least 60% of the ps3s true power.

If you could do math(DUH!) That means it wouldn't work on the 360.

Sorry 360 fanboys.

Levels this DEFINETLY needs (my pics from the games I've played)
-Mushroom Hill from S&N
-City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2
-Egg Fleet from Sonic Heroes
-Sky Ruins from Shadow tH
-The first level of the first TRUE world from Secret Rings
-Any Sonic Spinball level
-Sonic and Knuckles (The Portable One) Second level

That's my 2 cents on the matter

Uh.

They better keep the old mechanics intact.

Homing attack and speed boosters were one of the major annoyances I had with the later 2D Sonic games.

Music and stages from all Sonic games in one disc?
Count me in.

This is the worst news I've every heard. I expect broken physics, ugly art, poorly done music, awful stages from SA2, and generally just awful versions of old material.

I'm cautiously optimistic with this one. Sonic FINALLY seems to be getting legitimately good again, and this sounds like a fantastic idea on paper. However, I haven't forgotten the last anniversary. Though I wish I could.

I would love to see a few of the 3D Sonics remade in 2D. Remember that stage near the end of Sonic Adventure 2 where all the gravity shifts and everything? That could make a badass 2D level.

Hard to say without looking at it, but my initial answer is, "as long the game has a restraining order against the chucklefucks who made Sonic Genesis."

So even though no technical info for the game was released, you already know how much processing power it use?
