Sonic Adventure is on Xbox Live Arcade right now, and is hitting the PlayStation Network later this month. Don't believe me? Watch the video above. It proves it, for GOD's sake!

I must confess that I just don't get what it is about this game that makes it any different from the more recent 3D Sonic games, in that it still seems to be all about cheap pitfall deaths, useless hub worlds, and a focus on speed over gameplay.

Nevertheless, some people like it, so this is for them. Makes me wonder why they didn't like Sonic 2006.

So this isn't sonic adventure dx is it? If it's not then that seems kind of strange.

Sonic Adventure was one of the First Games I got when I got a dreamcast one of the best of the series then it went downhill from there

The reason why people like it, or at least I tend to think why other people do, is because this Sonic game is only bad in retrospect. At the time it came out people were pretty much clamoring it because Sonic was slowly making the transition from 2D to 3D much like Mario did with Mario 64. Come to think about it, Mario 64 is pretty terrible in retrospect. Those damn camera angles and awkward controls were annoying. At least Sonic ran away from a bleeping whale.

Had fun with Sonic Adventure on the DC, but wouldn't say it's a great game. It had its moments.

My favorite Sonic game of all time. Yeah I know it hasn't aged well, but I don't care! So many awesome memories.

I really liked Sonic Adventure 2. Is this one comparable?

wtf internet?, Sonic Adventure was great, and everybody loved it when it first launched, go see the ratings it had. I dont know what is it with everyone hating it all of the sudden, its like the new 3d sonics frustrated people so much they made u hate the awesome sonic adventure 1 and 2. Fuck it, im getting sonic adventure on xbox live arcade as soon as i get some money for a new hdd, and i totally fucking hope they put sonic adventure 2 wich is the best sonic ever.

This port is incredibly lazy, and the game itself is pretty bad anyway.

"I must confess that I just don't get what it is about this game that makes it any different from the more recent 3D Sonic games"
Probably because you have no attention to detail, as it's pretty blatant how it's different.

"in that it still seems to be all about cheap pitfall deaths"
To a much lower degree, especially considering how all of the stages aren't overly linear racetracks suspended in the air as they are now, and how the stages were actually designed to take advantage of the 3D medium.

"useless hub worlds"
Which showed up in only two games afterwards.

"and a focus on speed over gameplay."
Obviously to a much lesser degree again, if you had any attention to detail you'd notice how this game is far more platformer centric than more recent games.

"Makes me wonder why they didn't like Sonic 2006."
Because obviously it's a shitty, borderline unplayable, glitchy mess with awful gameplay and design choices, an overly dramatic inappropriate story, and bland, ugly visuals and music, you moron.

Not to mention this is pretty much the last Sonic game to actually look and sound like a Sonic game.

It's also funny that they're trying to ride the whole "It's a Dreamcast game!!" thing when this game isn't even the superior Dreamcast version, it's the crappy Gamecube port with all of the bonus features removed to be sold as DLC, which is despicable.

Funny how Sega likes to port this game every so often but the problem is everytime they do it just goes to show how awful the game really is. Because unlike doing a Super Mario 64 DS sort of port, they update the models of Sonic and friends and do not a god damn thing different.

Don't be fooled. This game is a shoddy port of a port of a port. They were so lazy they didn't even update the resolution. You know how much effort it takes to make this game widescreen on the PC? Next to none. About 3 lines of code, and honestly it looks great running at full screen resolution.

And for those of you confused over if this is SADX or not, it actually is SADX only with the art replaced to all of the Sonic Adventure DC art. However the features that were in SADX are still there, but they are only in a separate downloadable expansion pack.

Oh Scrappy Doo, you so troll.

As for Sonic Adventure XBLA, I think I'll pass. I haven't played it in years, and I fear for my memories. Besides I have DX: Director's Cut still. That's enough for me.

@llort het: you can get the added content from dx for 400 more points...

@jim: when sonic adventure came out.. sonic hadnt had a proper title on consoles in about 5 years (as im sure you know). sonic adventure had many flaws, but it was a lot of fun at the time. im convinced that sonic's other 3d games would have been not only liked better, but overall better games if they were only released every 4 or 5 years..

but like someones already said.. the game didnt age well. its alright, not the worst.. but its not something id drop everything im currently playing to go back and experience again.

also, its one of those things man.. you hadnt seen sonic in 5 years, so all the camera problems and tedium of the monotonous speed based level design was overshadowed by the fact that there was new sonic.. and in 3d! but when they did it every couple years with even worse camera controls and eventually even lamer level design/gimmicks.. it was over. nobody wanted it..

Sonic Adventure 1 is better than Sonic Adventure 2 because you actually play as Sonic for more than 10 minutes.

I didn't like Sonic 2006 because of the loading times. Other than that and the pop-in buildings, I honestly didn't mind it that much.

Nothing makes this different, Jim. People just have nostalgia from the Dreamcast launch. This game sucks.

You know, I thought that this game was way better than all of the other 3D Sonic games...and then I played the demo on XBLA. Rose colored glasses, they came off. Either the 360 controller handles this thing really badly compared to the Dreamcast one, or my memories had improved the game significantly. It's hella janky, to the point that even the really speedy parts in the demo level didn't work very well because I kept getting stuck on things or screwed over by the camera. It's pretty rough.

That's the best part of the game! The mouth moves for at least a whole second after they are done talking and it's funny everytime.

I still remember the first day I got the dreamcast, this was the first game I played running around chaos thinking why haven't they told me what the controls, until I died a few times XD (I should read the manual)
I loved the game as well as sonic adventure 2. Even with all the bugs, camera and control problems. Even with Big the cat (dam you froggy) I loved it for reasons I sometimes don't understand. I believe if they kept the concept from these games but fixed the above problems, sonic could of been great. But I just see new games with terrible concepts and the same problems (sometimes with more) And to me sonic is passed his expiry date.

This shows why Jim needs to not report news. To say that Sonic Adventure is in the same category of the rest of the 3D Sonic games is an asinine statement.

Sonic Adventure was/is amazing. I will be getting this ASAP.

Whoa. Really? REALLY?!?

I'm sorry Jim, but you're just sounding like a complete ignorant right now. I know you like to pick on Sonic fans but this just makes you look bad and untrustworthy.

Anyway, here's one of the reasons we didn't like Sonic 2006. Maybe it will give you a glimpse of the difference between it and Sonic Adventure:

Although trophy support sounds enticing, I don't need to own this or Sonic Adventure 2 twice, as I have the original DC versions. And really, how can anyone say that Sonic controls better in SA2? It's so clunky and annoying to use him, I think it's in part to the fact that his legs are longer(probably not relevant) for some god awful reason, but Sonic controls tons better in the first game. As to whether the the first or second is better, that's still up in the air, because they both have enough cons to rate them as equal to eachother.

Sonic Adventure is kind of like high school. It was fun while you were there but you don't want to go back now. Better to just leave in your memory.
