Sonic 4 gets Wii screens, online leaderboard confirmed photo

We've seen Sonic the Hedgehog 4 on Xbox 360, and it looks damn good. How does it fare on Wii? According to these new screenshots, revealed by Nintendo of America, it's not too shabby at all. According to Nintendo, the game will feature full HD resolution, so there's a reason it looks so nice!

The WiiWare version of Sonic 4 will feature everything that the more powerful consoles provide, including online leaderboards. Widescreen format was also hyped as a feature, which is kind of sad that a Wii game would have to pimp that as a bonus, but there you are.

In any case, the Wii alternative is coming along nicely, and that's not a bad thing.

It would be a steal if this game cost more than 15 dollars.

Good gravy Jim Sterling!

Can't even go one day without trolling, and showing everyone how much you hate Sony, clearly evidenced by the word grouping of, "...these new screenshots", and "In any case..."

Aye this is irrefutable proof of Jim's Sony hate, clearly evidenced by the word grouping of "will feature".

More seriously, how will the Wii display Sonic in Full HD with a component cable?

I think the idea is just to know it's there and be satisfied that if you could see it in HD, it would look great.

'I think the idea is just to know it's there and be satisfied that if you could see it in HD, it would look great'.

So what you're saying is that it would be HD on the Wii, if the Wii could output anything past 480p, which it can't.

Wha?

I'm curious what Nintendo thinks 'Full HD' means. I thought it had been widely accepted that the phrase referred to 1080x1920 progressive scan.

Yeah. Funny wording there.

Maybe they're expecting everyone to run out and buy that upscaler.

I'm not saying that. It appears to be what Nintendo is saying.

What, no tongue in cheek comments about how Sonic on the Wii is OBVIOUSLY the downfall of the series and this taint will infect everyone leading to a new world order under the control of giant lizards who make us perform QTE for all eternity?

:(

Hmm...it sounds like the whole "HD" claim is probably just a mistake. They probably just associate it to "widescreen" by default - which is wrong, of course.

I'll pick it up, but I won't pay more than ten dollars for it.

I think I've read too many Sonic 4 stories. Did you guys cover Megaman 10 this much?

I know that the wii hardware isn't hd and doesn't have the same graphical power and blah blah blah.

But this is Donkey Kong Country graphics. A Super Nintendo could do this.

So why does the wii version look so much more blurry and less defined than Donkey Kong Country? Is my memory bad, or am I being shafted?

@Corduroy Turtle
I think the timeframe between Megaman 10's announcement and release was much smaller.

Muramasa is all done in HD then scaled down hardware-wise. This title does the exact same thing. Future proofing at it's finest.

Which is why Wii owners got the shaft on that game - it's one of few that look better on an emulator flat-out without all postprocessing and just upping the resolution a bit.
For a game as gorgeous as Muramasa, it deserved to be played in HD... wasn't there talk of bringing it to 360/PS3?

I don't understand what "FULL HD" means for a Wii title. Is it like the game is being rendered at 720p and then downscaled?

I'd just like to point out that 1.) Glad to see Jim's still keepin' up on the trolling in every post he makes and 2.) Destructoid's image gallery scales the images automatically, so they appear blurrier and shittier than they really are.

Thanks guys! YOU ROCK.

...Wait, full HD resolution on the Wii version? Is that possible? Have they found a way to upscale downloadable games? That'd be cool.

Honestly, I wanted to get it on the Wii anyway -- Sonic just feels right with Nintendo if Sega's not going to make consoles themselves.

Wow, people are still calling Jim a troll with this? You mean by reporting the fucking news? Online leaderboards and supposed HD resolution on the Wii are worth reporting. Get over yourselves.

So if both versions are equally pretty...And I only have a SDTV...Do I want to have it sit next to the rest of my Sonic Collection on my Wii, or get it on the PS3?

Corduroy Turtle: No, but why should it? It's was just another Megaman 9, which I'm pretty sure got more coverage than Sonic 4.
