Once again, the ESRB has been shedding information on upcoming games, and it's been revealed that a number of Sega Genesis games have been given the green light for release on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
Sonic 3, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star II and Gunstar Heroes are all slated to appear on each console's digital download service, which would make for a second series of releases after Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic II, Golden Axe, Echo the Dolphine and Streets of Rage II made appearances last year.
The lack of "& Knuckles" at the end of Sonic 3 is a little disheartening, and with the release of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection coming soon, one wonders just what the point is. Still, this is Sega, and nostalgia is its bread and butter.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
FUCK YES
FUCK NO, IT'S NOT JET GRIND RADIO
right, anyway FUCK YEAH GUNSTAR HEROES
DO WANT. (If anything could compete with SSBB, it's this.)
And I'm willing to bet I could find a SegaCD emulator.
SEGA if you're listening, and you might actually be, please put MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL on the XBLA and PSN.
I have to admit, it would be damn fun to play co-op on live.
The only thing sitting between me and actually playing that Sonic Mega Collection I picked up ages ago is a good wireless controller I can sit back on and a decent D-pad. I cant wait to get the Sega collection on blu-ray, think i'll give these individual releases a miss..
Ah well, Sonic Jam's served me fine for a good decade now, and I don't see any reason to spring for another redo/compilation yet.
