Somebody put BioShock assets in Unreal Engine 4

9:00 PM on 04.29.2014

The original BioShock ran on (a heavily modified version of) Unreal Engine. That was almost seven years ago. What would the game look like running on the newest iteration, Unreal Engine 4? Someone had that same thought and put in the effort to find an answer.

"I've been itching to play with UE4... So I decided to gather up some of the original BioShock assets and see how they'd look in a next-gen engine!" wrote creator noodlespagoodle (what a name). "Like and comment if you want to see more. I just might expand a whole level from it!"

I'd like to play BioShock again one day. Maybe it'll get re-released before then. If nothing else, watch this video as an excuse to listen to "Beyond the Sea" just one more time.

That BioShock teaser was an iOS port and it plays well (sort of)

That BioShock teaser from 2K? It's not a new BioShock game. It's the first one, but on Apple devices. Hence the apple in the tease. Clever. Who called it? This is basically a full port of the PC version of BioShock,...more

These PlayStation demakes transport you to a simpler time

It's never been all about the graphics for me. I can appreciate slick environments and the ability to watch sweat roll down my rugged protagonist's brow. But truth be told, I've always had a thing for PlayStation-era graphics...more

Plasmids are surprisingly dangerous in real life

I know I'm not the only person that's fantasized about having plasmid powers. Andrew Ryan may have been a bat crazy anarchist, but he created a city where super powers became a thing, so he's alright with me. Thanks to TheDa...more

What if BioShock was a Disney musical?

BioShock Infinite may be all the rage lately, but I've had the original BioShock on my mind and so has College Humor. One part BioShock Cliffs Notes, one part Little Mermaid cover, College Humor's latest original is a joyful...more

Weekend reading: BioShock: Rapture novel excerpt

BioShock: Rapture, the prequel to Irrational Games' BioShock, is out July 19. It's not a game, though, it's a novel. Fun fact: Rapture is written by John Shirley, who wrote the the 1994 film, The Crow. Is it any good? Not sur...more

Review: Hohokum

Hohokum is amazing. It can also be awful. My time with it was often as captivating as it was arduous. Hohokum is everything right and wrong with videogames. It's equally worthy of condemnation and acclaim. I adore this horrible thing.more

Review: Road Not Taken

The term "roguelike" gets way too much airtime these days. If anything has permadeath, it's instantly a roguelike. If it takes place in a dungeon -- "roguelike!" But the original Rogue's core mechanical element was its grid-b...more
