Some BioShock Trophies will be unique photo

Tynan Wales, designer for the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock, recently rebutted fan response to familiar Trophies in a PlayStationBlog article. When Wales last gave details on some of the Trophies planned for the game, users were quick to point out that the majority of the Trophies were akin to the Achievements handed out in the Xbox 360 version. This time around, Wales states that sentiment “is not case” and outlines two Trophies unique to the game.

'A Man Chooses' is the first of these golden trophies and is reserved for those with the courage to complete Survivor difficulty...The final trial for any committed BioShock player is 'I Chose The Impossible.' This trophy is named appropriately as attaining it will make even the most self-assured gamesman into a shaking leaf. To make this your own, you must complete BioShock on Survivor difficulty with the Vita-Chambers turned off.
I love Achievements in games, but I’m pretty sure that this will become an abnormal scenario. I find it hard to believe that every developer will take the time to create unique stuff for us to strive for. Hopefully I’m terribly wrong, but forget Trophies anyway. I’m ready to hit Rapture again.

So they're adding a whole new difficulty? Because you get an Achievement on the 360 for beating the game on Hard using Vita-Chambers. It's not really that new, just more difficult (maybe).

Dexter: You mean not using Vita-Chambers. Actually, you get an achievement for doing it with, and a seperate one for doing it without (Brass Balls).

But yeah, it seems like they're just adding a new harder difficulty.

I love these challenges. It's a return to form of difficulty back in the NES and Genisis days. BRING IT ON!!!

Why are people complaining about their not being many new awards?
There's only so much unique stuff you can reward people for.

Yes, yes, NOT using Vita-Chambers. What I get for sneaking in comments while I'm supposed to be working.

I don't get it, what's the big deal with unique trophies. It's not like anybody will choose one version over the other, because the achievements are a bit different.

American version of Uncharted got trophies shortly after the EU version got one. The only reason I like trophies more than achievements is how points can be more unbalanced than the four trophies.

@Redzie
I'd don't know if trophies are really fair though...like in PJ Eden, complete all the seeds without wasting pollen and you get...BRONZE? And SSHD where you collect 15 bombs in late bloomer and get a silver, but in co-op you just stay together for three minutes and get a gold? Some of it just doesn't make a lick of sense.

I'm totally down with this game. I've already become a trophy ho.

I never said that the trophy system is perfect (yet), I just implied that it could do better than how the achievements work. Allocation of points can be vastly different from each developer and trophies are divided into four different levels of difficulty in the certain task. Also, they just started doing this so it cant be all perfect in the beginning.

The whole "vita-chambers" turned off thing is such a cocktease since you can save anywhere regularly.

I never finished it on 360 (due to other games coming out and the plot kinda being spoiled online quite fast thanks to bullshit bloggers from mostly other sites ), but if the PS3 version has enough "extras" I might just go for it :-)

Wow, two new achievements, and neither of them are tied to the PS3-exclusive challenges? Lazy. At least PS3 owners will get to enjoy the game just as 360 owners did, but I don't see multi-console owners rebuying it.

Redzie: Technically it's only 3 levels of difficulty, since the Platinum is just for getting all of the other trophies in a "major" game.

And they really should do something to level the difficulty for acquiring each level. The Gold trophies are worth 6 times a Bronze and the Silver 2 times, and the difficulty should be scaled accordingly. As someone else said, the co-op Gold trophy in Super Stardust is pathetically easy to get. In fact, if you've got the multiplayer expansion (required for that trophy) and a second controller you can do it by yourself in 3 minutes. Just start up the second level and don't shoot anything. I don't have it myself since I don't have the expansion, but I did manage to do a 10 minute co-op link thing by myself in the single screen multiplayer.

Doesn't this article miss the big point? 'Survivor' difficulty?

That's awesome. This game was way too easy. Definitely needed a harder difficulty.
