Soldier Of Fortune 3 confirmed photo

Unfortunately, if you've read the headline of this story then you've already got through most of the information we have on this one at the moment. Today, Kotaku got confirmation through from Activision that a third Soldier Of Fortune game, subtitled Pay Back, is in development. Activision's statement didn't give much away, stating only that:

Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back is being published by Activision's Minneapolis office. We have no further information to share at this point, but hope to very soon.

Not massively informative, but given that the story was broken as a rumor by WorthPlaying this morning, it could be that Activision wasn't planning on making a statement at all today and has had its hand forced.

WorthPlaying is also currently reporting rumors that the new game isn't being developed by original creator Raven, but is instead coming from Cauldron, developer of last year's multiformat Civil War. There's also a story that the enemy character models are going to have 36 points of separation to allow for some very creative dismantling, but it's important to remember at this stage that everything apart from Activision's statement is coming from one of those oh-so-prolific, shady unnamed sources that the internet holds so dear.

As with a lot of stories at the moment, more information will probably come to light at E3, so hang fire and hopefully we'll come up with something for you soon. And preferably without having to deal with a gravelly-voiced man in a shadowy car park at midnight.

DEAR GOD I HOPE THAT THIS IS AN AO RATED GAME! Fuck consoles. This game was one of the goriest, most detailed, and best FPSs of it's time. Nothing better than having dozens of ways for someone to have their head blown off. Or the infamous nut shot. Good times, good times. Hell, I still throw SoF I+II whenever I get a new PC just as an awesome benchmark.

This is cool. I'm actually playing through the single player of the first game right now, never played the single player back in the day only multi. The game is a lot of fun and it is so satisfying when you blow someone's arm or leg off with a shotgun.

those prices at EB annoy me a bit... just like overlord, PC is a full $20 cheaper than the console version... Granted, unlike overlord, shooters control better on PC.

Also, activision doesn't tend to use starforce... codemasters does. SOF 3 should be safe for my PC

too bad i'm an achievement junkie... it makes platform decisions complicated...

Right on, hooray for [possibly] good games. This is pretty good news.

It's been a while since I virtually dismembered guys limb by limb with a shotgun.

SOF was the first game I ever played online. It was my first taste of the online gaming world, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I played the original SOF to the extreme, I also got heavily involved in the community. The community was rather small and it was a community where everybody knew each other, to the point of being on a first name basis with almost everyone. I have never before encountered a community that was so close even to this day. Well whatever I needed to reminisce.

Hopefully SOF3 will take up the characteristics of SOF1 with its fast brutal gameplay as opposed to SOF2.

Dr. Phil and George Lucas, spot on! The guy on the left is clearly Carl Weathers. I love how Lucas' weapon of choice is the crotch flash...

So we got Montel Williams on roids, Dr. Phil, and George Lucas. Great, looks like a crack up team there. I'm going to be over there, with the enemies.

Yeah PC can have their games $20 cheaper but you will have to spend like $1500 on a top rig that will be able to run shit with everything high (high settings junkies).

And yeah that guy looks like Dr Phil!! the one on the left look more like Jim Brown
Keep in mind this guy is 69 years old so is on Dr. Phil's age range... and can kick your ass in 30 seconds or less...

i say the guy on the right is more like Walter (john goodman) in the Big Lebowski. Also, I heard the enemy characters have 10 gore points in the genitals alone.

Great to hear this confirmed. I buzzed of the other two. Mainly for the gore of course.

I also found it funny that in the very first run of the original (The version I played) you could kill as many of the Iraqi civvies as you well pleased, yet were penalised on any other mission that had civilians you could kill.

Naughty dev's!
