SOCOM: Confrontation 'Cold Front' DLC gets detailed photo

Slant Six and SCE have announced a new and snow-themed expansion called Cold Front for the FPS SOCOM: Confrontation. Set to hit at an unknown date and priced at $14.99, the cold DLC is packing a flurry of content including five new maps, three of which are re-tuned SOCOM golden oldies. Thermal goggles and white camo will be included in the DLC, as well as a different character progression system, a new mode dubbed “Arms Run,” and a new Special Forces regiment, the Russian Spetsnaz.

The new progression system is traditional -- players pick a weapon, use it a lot, and then unlock new attachments for it that they can deploy in battle. What makes this a bit more interesting are the weapons themselves. Three news weapons are included in the expansion, along with 6 “enhanced” oldies that will fit into the aforementioned progression system.

There’s obviously a lot of new here, or at least an Eastern European landslide of tiny details (such as Arms Race being a missile launcher sabotage-style mode), so do hit up the official SOCOM Web site if this expansion pack tickles your fancy. And speaking of fancy tickling, while a date hasn’t been announced, the DLC will roll out at the price of $9.99 on the first day its purchasable -- a special price for the fans of game whose said fancies are tickled.

I used to play SOCOM on the ps2, with the voice command headset. It could never understand what I was saying though.

Oh yeah, ps3 sucks.

broken game leaves broken hearts rip socom... just kidding i love socom con but i still feel like im playing a beta. im not a graphics whore but come on they could of did better. when confrontations was announced it was touted to be the most realistic looking modern war game to date when it released...gea not so much. i still play hoping to stay warmed up for socom 4 as bleak as that may sound.

Technically, SOCOM is not an FPS. Hardcore SOCOMers might discredit this writer and the site- and trust me, there are a lot of hardcore, old school SOCOMers that despise FPSs.

Sorry. Just read all the comments, but I felt this was worth mentioning again.

Yeah- and I'm kind of ticked off that I'm going to have to pay $15 for only 2 new maps (I've played Blizzard, Nightstalker, and Vigilance a BILLION times already). I don't even really like these maps. Give me Ruins or Sandstorm or Abandoned or an expanded Boneyard (with an additional boat entrance up top) or Blackwoods or After Hours or Liberation or Last Bastion or Fishhook or Enowapi or Mixer. It's going to take FOREVER to download the maps on day one since everyone is going to be downloading. I am truly insulted that they would be charging $10-$15 for 2 new maps. The price point should be based on 2 maps, not 5. The old maps should be treated as free bonus maps for all the old SOCOMers. Whenever SOCOM re-released maps, they charged $6 for 3 or more maps. How can the justify charging $15 for only 2 new maps (sure, 5 maps) when they're lucky to have as many people stick around after all the problems. I mean, you can go on eBay and buy the game for $10! They need to realize that their game isn't worth what they think it's worth. They have a lot of people playing SOCOM, but it's only because it's the game currently on a next-gen system that most resembles SOCOM. As much as I would like to play the 2 new maps (and a PS3 Nightstalker that hopefully won't be ruined by being riddled with exploding cars and barrels), I will refuse to give Slant Six that much money for 2 new maps. I will patiently wait until they release them for free.

First off, Slant 6 didn't ruin SOCOM. If you think about it they did a great job to get that SOCOM II feel but with more detailed graphics. My opinion on the exploding barrels, they should be able to be turned "on and off" at the beginning of a creation of a game. They make the game funner and more realistic.
These 5 large-detailed maps have taken large amounts of time over the last few month's considering they are doing this to please the real SOCOMers by throwing in the new versions of the original SOCOM maps. They are probably going to come out with another map pack which I'd assume will have Fish Hook, Sandstorm, and The Ruins and two completely new maps.
As a SOCOMer I like the way they are doing things. Their maps packs are much cheaper than Call of Duty's which don't include new weapons, weapon add-ons, new music, and bunch more. While playing SOCOM I and II back in the day, I could only dream of what they are doing now. I've written them letters years ago telling them this idea of the new SOCOM on PS3 and I guess thousands did the same.

FPS shooters of course will always look better, but to me SOCOM actually takes skill and talent to play. You need pin-point-hand-eye coordination. Never seen any one pick up the controller and start owning at SOCOM, on the other hand Call of Duty is arcadish, more fast pace and much easier. Call of Duty is still a great ame. Going to get it on release but they are two different shooters. Call of duty if you want to hear little johnny's mother yelling at him to clean his room.
