SOCOM 4 is Sony's big PS3 sequel photo

The big secret sequel that Sony was working on has been revealed ahead of time, and no it's not Killzone 3, inFAMOUS 2, or any of the other big games people were expecting. It is, in fact, SOCOM 4, developed by original series creator Zipper Interactive. Yep, that's the big game, folks!

SOCOM 4 is set in South East Asia, where a revolutionary army attempts to screw up the world's economy by taking a crucial waterway. It's up to the five-man Ops Com squad to put an end to these nefarious baddies and save the world.

Your mission is to step into the well-worn boots of the Ops Com, a NATO Operations Commander of an elite, five-man squad. You must venture deep into inhospitable jungles, city streets and crumbling urban ruins to engage an army of rebel fighters and discover their plans. Although you’re vastly outnumbered, you’re armed with the latest weaponry and your men are second to none – but do you possess the stealth, speed and tactical thinking to lead them to victory? Time is not on your side: you have just six days to complete your mission. To emerge victorious, you must lead from the front, maintain control of the situation and fight with sheer intensity.

As well as the single-player campaign, there will be a 32-player online mode as well. GTTV will have an exclusive trailer later, but for now, enjoy the imagery and hype! Or be crushingly disappointed because it wasn't what you were expecting. Your call!

Never played a SOCOM game, but I'd rather have this than any of the other ones on "the list". So "yay", I suppose.

So many people are dissapointed already across the internetz.. they set their expectations too high, IMO.

I mean MAG sales went down more harder than I've ever seen following release, and was far from critically acclaimed. Why the fuck would they announce Socom 4 now instead of E3 or early 2011? I'll take the rumored motion waggle KZ3 over this news.

Having never played a SOCOM game before I am disappointed it isn't a sequel to a game I already love.

But if this gets good review I may very well give it a whirl.

This is better than anything I was expecting. Zipper SOCOM > multiplayer console games. I squealed sitting in class.

Don't worry kiddies, I'm sure Nintendo will have something for you to play in the fall too.

SOCOM 4 by Zipper.... Fuck yeah!

Wicked lame. I had really hoped Socom died and was replaced by MAG.

I still can't grasp why Socom survived beyond the first sequel. *sigh*

Another hope for Sly 4 gone with the wind.

I think this is excellent news. Rather than announcing R3, KZ3 or Infamous 2, games that we already know are on the way, we get a brand new game.

I had assumed they were talking about a Twisted Metal sequel. the only announcement that could be more boring and bland than this would be another Syphon Filter.

The Zipper socom games were a lot of fun, so I'm slightly excited, but also a little disappointed.

really not a good time to announce a game like this. with MW2, MAG, BC2 etc cleaning up in that area it's going to be a while before i can get really enthusiastic about another military shooter.

This is actually exciting to me, as I was a huge fan / player of the original 3 SOCOM titles...... and have hated everything since.

I'm still on the fence, but depending on the direction this is heading (offering an offline, story driven experience again is a fantastic step in the right direction) it may make it a day one purchase for me..... but I'll wait and see.

To be honest i always hated socom. even when it was considered good while it was on the ps2. socom is not a big game. it was only big on the ps2 because it was the only ps2 online game. That's like getting excited about fucking jim sterling if he was the only person left alive.

it's painfully clearly that socom is a game that few give a shit about, it is not a system seller, nor is it a exclusive worth bragging about.

Hooray SOCOM!

I enjoy Confrontation, but there's definitely room for improvement there. Hopefully Zipper can bring the franchise back to life.

Granted, they are fairly different. And I haven't played a SOCOM game in years, maybe I'd like them better, now. So congrats to fans of the series, I suppose.

Bleh, nothing against this game, but it seems with the last SOCOM, and MAG, etc that we've had a lot of this shooter lately. I was hoping for a revived franchise. Although it's good Zipper will be making this one, I don't think they made the last.

What I find amusing is that Zipper released MAG: 256 players and is eventually going to release SOCOM 4: 32 players. A little backwards Zipper?

Not a SOCOM person, but I find it funny that the people disappointed are disappointed because it wasn't Killzone 3, Infamous 2, or Resistance 3. You know those games are happening anyway.

Why would they do that? MAG is way better than SOCOM and most of the same people are playing it.
