So you want to build a LEGO Mr. Destructoid? photo
Want your blog on our home page? Answer this!

[Editor's note: Community member SiK99 made a how to guide at making a Mr. Destructoid head out of LEGOs. Check out how to make it below! -- CTZ]

This is my attempt to compile a guide to show you the way. This build will use 103 LEGO pieces which I will list below. You can purchase all of these off the LEGO Web site by first going to "by THEME", then to "Individual Bricks & Building Accessories" and lastly to "Pick a Brick".

The grand total for the 103 pieces comes to $12.85 (not including tax/shipping). Check out the step-by-step process on how to make the Mr. Destructoid head after the break!

Legos Needed (Qty-Description-Color):

2- Round Plate 1x1- Transparent Red
2- Round Plate 1x1- Green ("Bright yellowish-green")
2- Plate 1x2- Green
4- Plate 1x2- Grey ("Medium stone grey")
1- Plate 1x3- Grey
1- Plate 1x2 W. 1 Knob- Grey
2- Plate 1x1- Grey
25- Flat Tile 1x2- Green
2- Technic Brick 1x2, 04.9- Grey
27- Plate 1x4- Green
3- Profile Brick 1x2- Grey
2- Connector Peg W. Knob- Grey
6- Brick 1x2- Green
1- Light Sword Blade- Grey
8- Brick 1x3- Green
1- 3 M.Arch W.Knob and Shaft 03.2- Grey
5- Plate 4x4- Green
5- Brick 1x4- Green
1- Brick 2x4- Green
1- Brick 1x1 W. 4 Knobs- Black(or Grey)
2- Angular Brick 1x1- Grey

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Step 5:

Step 6:

Step 7:

Step 8: This one can be a bit tricky and you might have to do some adjusting later. Notice how in the fourth picture that the dark grey 4 knob piece is on the top of the vertical grey piece in such a way that allows the horizontal grey piece to "rest" in the gap. Also notice the knob on the vertical grey piece is flush with the "front". The vertical grey piece should barely be in the dark grey 4 knob piece for this to happen.

Step 9: The six Plate 1x4 Green pieces go around the top in the first picture. You then have four more of the Plate 1x4 Green pieces on top, two in front and two in back.

Step 10: The two Plate 4x4 pieces go on top.

Step 11: This step just places the Flat Tile 1x2 Green on top. I made sure to have a row connecting the two 4x4 plates below in the center to help make it sturdy. There really isn't a wrong way to do this.

Step 12: Almost done! We just have to complete the "eyebrow/nose" piece that goes on the front. You'll notice in the eighth and ninth picture that I have a pen pointing to the two pieces that are to fit together. Just put the back-middle peg into the knob and everything should line up properly.

Final Picture!

Well hopefully you were able to follow the guide without too many issues. I was going to send the LEGO Mr. Destructoid in for the "WTF is this Sh!t?" contest earlier in the year but it was ended before I had the chance. Here is a picture of the final build, the Hulk, and my DS games/tower. I'll end this by saying thanks for checking this out and I hope you enjoyed it!

Haha!!! Awesome. I love your photo's and detailed purchase information. Also, pretty epic Wall-O-DS you've got there!

(p.s. LEGO Digital Designer. You can print an 'official' manual with that program. Shit's awesome! But you probably know about it already.)

I'm fooling around with LDD right now the program doesn't recognize a few of your options. Dammit. I think I'll have to rape and redesign your version. It's all in good fun so no worries. I have to say, you've got some interesting solutions to some problems in your design.

(LOL, I'm so fucking serious about LEGO it's insane.)

@Wry Guy Thanks! The build didn't take too long but the guide took a good amount of time on here.

@Takeshi The Lego Digital Designer is where I made it. Everytime I built the manual in the program, it kept placing legos "underneath" on the steps. Needless to say it would have been a hard build with their instructions. As far as the options, they should all be in there. Which ones were you having trouble with? Maybe the colors are different? I had to substitute a couple grey colors for a lack of the green.

@Monodi I sure love me some DS

@mourning orange I know, right?

@Takeshi The eyebrow/nose piece was the hardest part. I had to try figuring something out that lined-up and still had the spacing around the eyes and top. The lack of green on the lego website didn't help either and required a couple color substitutions.

@garison I'll rent you the spare bedroom if you like. You'd only be one room away from the games :-O

@Birdman the Friendly Thank you!

@RonBurgandy2010 I'm glad you think so

Hmmm... not bad at all. As a fellow lego-ite I have a few suggestions that may make it better. Use two 2x2 circle pieces for each ear puck, the single circle nubs aren't big enough. The mouth is fine, but I think in the more recent lego sets there are new grill pieces that would work better. he eye are fine, but as the whole head is a bit 'flattened-ish' they seem a bit too far apart. Also the eyebrow piece needs to be 2 nubs wide and a lot of 2x1 with one nub piece's could be used with black circle nubs to make the rivet like look on the eyebrow. But then you'd have to indent that whole section and make the head much bigger. Anyways, maybe I'll give the dtoid helmet a shot one day, definitely going to have to custom order some more light green pieces though.

Sweet work dude, plus holy crap that wall-o-DS, dayum.

Hmm, well my blog got promoted but now I can't find it (without doing a search for Lego). Do promoted blogs get removed from your blog page? It also says its tagged "Promoted Stories" but I can't find it in there either. Any ideas?

@grafkhun I wasn't happy with the ear section of the build but the lego website only offers a limited amount of different pieces in that green color. I just didn't want too many different colors on there if I could help it. I don't think I've seen any grill pieces either. I'd definitely make a bigger one if I could get larger green circle pieces(ears) and larger red ones(eyes). Hopefully Lego will add them for purchase.

Hey I'm TOTALLY doing this.
We have a Lego Store at my local mall, so I'll go there, get everything needed and tell everyone how much it costs to make. It's awesome you can pick and choose any blocks you want!

I'm estimating about 252 games have they made that many worth a purchase?

@fetusmilk Lifesize D-toid Lego Helmet? I might give this a try...

@Vimto Last count was 234 DS games, plus 11 DSiWare games/apps. I'd estimate that there is around 300 DS games or so that are worth buying. That number may fluctuate based on your gaming tastes though. I know some that would be hard pressed to find 20 DS games that they'd buy.

Good god! It's LEGO and "lego bricks", not "legos"! Ugh.

Americans and adding a plural s to "lego". It's not the worst thing you do, but it's up there.
