So, this is what Epic Mickey looks like photo

Game Informer has the exclusive on Epic Mickey, and Game Informer is carrying that exclusive around like a cat with a freshly killed rat. In preparation for its big magazine unveiling, GI has today posted some imagery and artwork to wet the whistle, including an image of the redesigned Mickey Mouse.

As you can see, he's got a distinct retro look to him, but updated with a modern sheen. He certainly looks better than the weird man-ape character that Mickey has been immortalized as. Something about Mickey Mouse and his bear, human-pigmented face skin has always made me feel slightly queasy. I'm glad he's going back to his roots in this game.

Head on over to GI's site to check out some more images, including a robotic Donald Duck. This is looking to be one supremely twisted game, and you don't get to say that often about a Disney product these days.

Mickey looks a bit bland in that screen.

I'm so excited. I've been waiting so long for a Mickey Mouse revival. I didn't think it would be a video game, but I'm glad it is.

I thought he was going to be all "Mad Max tattered Mickey", but he's just "SD-Gamecube Graphics Cute Mickey."

I'm not as excited, but will still buy a Wii for this game.

I kinda like the retro look.

I can’t wait for Epic Mickey to come to Europe. Especially ‘cause in Ireland a “Mickey” is slang for a mans.....you know...thing. So when we hear “Epic Mickey” the first thing that comes to mind is a massive.....you know.

Oh, and the game might be good too.

Hit the Game Informer website link in the story description, and check out the Mad Doctor collage. Anyone remember the Micky Mania SNES level?

It looks a bit similar in that Mickey is re-visiting all his old famous shorts, which is awesome.

I still fail to see how a Mickey Mouse game can be epic in any way. Maybe it's just me.

The ears follow you. They rotate around Mickey's head so that they are always facing you. Even in 3D.

I agree with koehler83. Playing him in kh2 made me want him to have his own game with the same engine. COME ON SQUENIX AND DISNEY, forget roxas and the other emo zipper lovers, gimme me mickey as he starts out his training to become badd ass and let me play and see what the hell he was doing thru out kh1. As for epic mickey. I think the design looks dated in a not cool way. maybe they should have gone cell shaded.

have you actually read the GI magazine?
I have, and in the article it shows screenshots. None of which looked anything like the concept art.It actually looked cutesy again. It's a shame too seeing as how this is a Warren Spector Game.

I love when they take cute, kiddy characters and completely twist their world for an epic video game. Just like Conker~! xD Micky looks awesome. I wonder if he'll be a pervert like the old days.

I remember I enjoyed Mickey Mania in the SNES. I loved how they mixed the "modern" Mickey Mouse and all the classics episodes. This game makes me feel soft of the same but in a more "mature" way, I like that feeling and of course I am buying it.

Well, I expected this look as soon as I heard it would look retro, so no surprises there. Donald and Goofy still looks awesome, but I would prefer an even more crazy style. But I am still not hyped for this game, it's Disney, they cater to mostly kids, so they can't do whatever they want with this game.

And Disney has lost it's roots, stopped making quality movies, pumped out crap tv on Disney Channel and creates annoying as hell kid-artists without talent. Sorry, I won't buy this.

I'm kind of disappointed. With all the hype I was starting to consider this game as a possibility. But this is terrible, he looks the same to me, just dumbed down in quality... A bad ass mickey would have sold me, not this.

which would have been cool, bit it's not the point. this one is fully dedicated to the lost animation from the past and is looking pretty freaking dark for what it is

I was excited but then I got my issue of GI and saw the screens.

Game looks really boring and kind of generic, honestly.

Also, the graphics are GC quality. WTF?

linux, agreed. from what I've seen of scans around the net, the actual game does NOT match up to the awesome concept art. Very, very disappointed. It may turn out good, but yeah, my hype for this is dead at this point.

I don't know. It's not really living up to the concept art yet. I'm going to have to see a trailer for this and learn some more about the gameplay.

That's exactly what I expected Mickey to look like though (and I'm down).

"Also, the graphics are GC quality. WTF?"

You're looking at early animation test shots and concept art. For god sake the game doesn't even come out for another full year. Are you really going to write it off, from just seeing it in its earliest form?
EternalDeathSlayer's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/20/2009 12:43

PEICanada7: No, I'm not "writing it off". Just mentioning how my enthusiasm has dipped for this game, and why.

The pictures I see in my GI in front of me do not look like "test shots". These look like real gameplay to me, and that gameplay looks boring.

The concept art was much more interesting looking.
AdamantiumHip's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/20/2009 12:51

Yeah the screens looked pretty much gameplay, not test shots.

EDS had it right. The concept art looked so much more interesting. Darker and more adult yet still disney. As someone else said, this game looks like ''tim burton lite'' more than anything truly special and outstanding.

I haven't totally written the game off yet, but it's going to need a strong, strong come back to get me hyped again.

Disney can go take a flying leap, tossing Mickey into a pool of rabid hyenas in the process.

Did any of you really expect Disney to allow things like a cybernetic scorpion/Country Bear hybrid? This looks like an awesome throwback to Disney from the 20's to 50's, even if it's not some "gritty" Steampunk Willie shit.

You guys should look at the shorts from the 1930s to grab a charm on what is so special about this, it looks dark and tetric like sometimess Walt Disney intended to do on the alternate world of Mickey Mouse.

Perhaps this is like the SF4 reveal in EGM all over again -- the game appeared disappointing at first, but a lot of folks came around in the end once the polish had been applied. And, as mentioned, the game does not release until Q3 or Q4 of 2010.

But, to be honest, I am not particularly thrilled about the visual style used as seen in the pages of GI. It looks ... mediocre. And while I have no real attachment to Mickey Mouse or the cartoons regardless of the era or style, I wonder if Epic Mickey has gone TOO far back in time for inspiration. Do folks nowadays know about those really old school Mickey cartoons?

It's akin to when wrestling programs trot out hall of famers expecting a crowd largely contingent of children to cheer and be enthusiastic. That simply does not work because those kids have no idea who the Honky Tonk Man or Sgt. Slaughter are.

I was referring to all the people who looked at just those pictures of Mickey up there and started complaining. I haven't seen the magazine, so I can't comment on that.
