So, they're doing a Halo anime photo

It has today been revealed that Microsoft's new Halo studio, 343 Productions, is overseeing an anime set in the Halo universe, with a trailer due to be revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con later on this day. Dubbed Halo Legends, the cartoon will be a series of seven short adventures revolving around everyone's favorite green-helmeted space heroes.

Five well-known studios are behind the project -- Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio4 C, and Toei Animation.  Shinji Aramaki, aka The Appleseed Guy, is acting as director on behalf of Microsoft.

A few details have been shed on one of the episodes by the LA Times:

Frank O'Connor, creative director of 343, gave a peek at some of the other Halo Legend shorts. Studio4 C's project, tentatively called "Origins," is a two-parter that's about 30 minutes long in total and tells the entire 100,000 year history of the Halo universe. Another, from Toei, is the only one outside of the official canon and pokes fun at some of the game's characters.

Should be great news for Halo fans who like a bit of Weeaboo in their diet. We'll have the trailer up for you as soon as we get our rancid talons on it. Until then, sit tight and pray that Halo Legends doesn't feature tentacle rape. I really don't need to see that.

When will they learn that Master Chief is actually a rubbish character and stop making him the star of stuff? Yeah the Halo games were good, but he has bugger all personality!

I think, when it comes out, Podtoid should do commentary on it.

I am pretty sure there isn't much (if any) audience overlap for Halo and your standard anime series, so other than maybe tricking frat boys into buying something they despise I don't really see the point. Halo's story is pretty dull and generic, after all.

Why don't they make a Metal Gear anime? That would be awesome.

@ lou

Yes because Toei Animation specialised in making american cartoons >_<

I'd rather like to see a Half Life anime, personally. Either way, I'm a sucker for anime art style, so I'll probably give this a look.

I had to remember what exactly Toei did, so I had to look them up, and found out they were responsible for the Dragonball series. Master Chief doing a Kamehameha has been confirmed.

As long as the cartoon has the same level of maturity as the GI Joe Resolute miniseries than I'm sure it'll be ok.

If it's anime standard action junk with plenty of brooding, then it'll blow.

@Tye That's because KyoAni only does one project per season. They keep their staff small and try to put out high-quality works as a result. So that's why we'll never see them collaborating on something like this. Plus? Moe-blob Halo? I would prefer to pass on that.

@Jamn It's got some serious talent behind it (Studio 4C alone), so I'm sure it'll be fine.

@GoldenGamerXero: I'd much prefer to watch that than a Halo anime.

But who knows. Maybe It'l be an over-the-top violent and flashy anime with tons of action. Would be interesting at least.

Awesome. As long as they stick to the canon and, like Jam said, make it at least as mature as GI Joe: Resolute, this could be good.

@ChainThrow:
Halo actually has a great storyline and universe, the games just don't fully convey it. The novels are where the bulk of the rich story come from.

If this anime is anything like the novels, then it looks like it will be the first anime I will ever buy.

The guys who are making the shorts are great, so , how did they manage to take such a sh*tty screencap?..i don't get it

Wow, Master Chief is so boring. He barely talks, have no personality and pratically no friend.
Is the anime being in first person and the watcher decides what happens?

I'm going to frame this has nice has possible:
"If I'm not mistaken regular Halo users are unappreciative of anime enthusiasts, resulting in most cases in defamation of character."
*ahem*

So this is going to be like the Animatrix and the Dark Night, cool.

As long as Steve Blum does the voice of master chief, it's all good. Except all I will probably think that Spike Speigle is actually MC in that armor.

It sounds like a collection of mini-stories, a la Batman: Gotham Knight.

Honestly, I'd prefer it if they just picked one studio and had them produce a coherent mini series. A studio like Bones would no doubt be able to do awesome things with the Halo material.

Huh. At first I was rolling my eyes furiously, but the more I think about it, the more this reminds me of both The Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight. While neither of them were, overall, fantastic pieces, it's really cool to see a variety of takes on the mythos through several ministories.

This could be pretty okay.

I expect this is an attempt to fill the void left by the film deal failing. If at first you don't succeed; give up, change the format, and relaunch.

Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed, I had hoped this would be another franchise they would show some love to. But, if this is good, I can't say that I won't check it out either. As much as MS is milking the shit out of Halo, at least there hasn't been a family friendly version Halo or some Halo Kart or whatever.

I said this a while ago, and I'll say it again:

As long as the quality of the Halo material they release is good, then I don't care what they release. When everything starts to suck, then they need to stop.
