Kimi no Yuusha

I really love the RPG genre but I almost never manage to actually finish one. There are three sitting on my desk right now, some of which I've barely scratched the surface on. And, when I finally get back to them, I'll probably be so lost that I'll have to start from the beginning again. A big part of the reason for that is I simply can't invest the amount of time necessary to play all the way through.

SNK/Playmore seems to have figured out that there are probably a lot of people like me and are offering a solution. Kimo no Yuusha is a new title that boasts RPG-style gameplay with stories that can be completed in under half an hour. With over 75 stories total in the game, finishing it will still take quite a while but at least you can get your fix in short order.

Now, of course, if the quests are linked together by unifying characters and such, that might defeat the purpose somewhat. And I would be concerned about the quality of stories that can be completed so quickly. How can you become attached to a character in less time than it takes to get a pizza delivered?

The game is being released in Japan on October 23rd. There's no word on if it'll ever travel beyond those borders, but I think it could really have a shot elsewhere. Does something like this appeal to you?

74 Storys? Imagine the grinding.

This sounds like a really interesting idea. If they are able to pull this of nicely, it could be a lot of fun. Like watching a TV show, but only in RPG form.

This is brilliant. I can easily commit 30 minutes; 40+ hours is another matter altogether.

Awesome! I had a similar idea years ago but in 2 hour blocks. Looking forward to this.

This is a really, really great concept. I can plug away at a game for a half hour here or there, maybe an hour before bed, but I rarely have time to really commit to an RPG. If the stories are done well and intertwine in an interesting way, this could be a really great game.

I'm sold, too. I haven't completed an RPG since FFIX on the PS1.

This is a cool concept and I'm somewhat surprised it hasn't been attempted earlier. I love SNK.

Excellent idea. Something that really should have been thought of before. Since so many of the people that grew up playing RPGs now dont seem to have the time to invest in something that might thake 50 or 60 hours to complete. hopefully an english language version will get released.

This is a great idea for the people in Japan or in the US who take public transit to and from work. You can complete a whole story on the way to work and another on the way back. Excellent idea.

This sounds like a great idea, I am an rpg fan and I would love to try it. I actually find that RPG games make good pick up and play games because they are non action based so you can stop at almost any time, put it down for a bit, do something you need to do, then go back to it without losing anything. With an action game you have that commitment to keep playing to get through the level even if you have to stop to do something else, so then you lose the level and have to start all over again.

I would love to play this~ It's a great idea for those that can't sit down and dedicate 40+ hours to a RPG.

you swear like most RPGs are meant to be played in one long 40 hour sitting...

Good idea, but we'll see how it plays out. Also, isn't Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core the same basic idea?

Since this is SNK we're talking about, maybe they can revive Crystalis in very minor ways with this or similar future projects.

awesome idea. i'd be very interested in something like that. anime TV shows do a great job of keeping a coherent story with only 20minutes a week...it's a bit trickier with RPGs, since there's also the unique state of your character, but it seems perfectly possible.

go SNK!

One of the reasons I've stopped playing RPGs almost entirely, after having named it my favorite genre as a teenager, is lack of time. I can see this having a market here, assuming its any good.

Definitely sounds like a mobile game, I'm thinking PSP though. Anyone know for sure?

I like the idea. I'm the same way, just don't have the time to dedicate to such a large game anymore.
