We're excited about Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Atlus' newest DS RPG in the SMT world. Just knowing it is coming is good enough for me. But now that we've heard some details about the demon-exchanging password system, we're super pumped.
In Strange Journey, you'll be able to customize and fuse demons, and then create custom passwords that can be used to give demons to friends. In other words, everything you do to make your own demon can be summed up in a password that can be given to others. How cool is that? Let's say that I have a demon that's well suited to a certain section of the game. You don't. I can give you this password and you'll have that demon for yourself.
Even cooler than this is special codes. I'll let Atlus tell you:
Atlus will release a very limited number of passwords for use in the demon compendium which will unlock rare, otherwise inaccessible demons. Fans are encouraged to be on the look out for these finite codes, as they may not necessarily all come at the same time or even from the same source.
Nice. I want them all, naturally. SMT: Strange Journey will be released in Spring of 2010. For now, here's some new screens to hold you over.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I should point out though that you can't just input any password for any demon you want at any time. There are still level restrictions, to stop you from making like Lucifer before the first dungeon.
Really can't wait to get this game though. Most anticipated game of 2010.
SMT series predates Pokemon. Strange Journey just takes the perspective of the series back to where it was before the PS2 era of SMT took it third-person.
I loved Devil Survivor and this looks to be in a similar vein.
Purchase Ahoy!
Monster Rancher Advance for the GBA used codes, and all it's specials were out quick, though it wasn't quite this same system
Now read the post again!
*I have been an SMT fan for a long time, but DS owners are definitely going to go nuts.
