It's an overload of info on Smash Bros. Brawl this week. Lets start off with the DOJO first. Things got kicked off with Zelda/Sheik's Final Smash attack. She takes out her bow and shoots out a light arrow that instantly kills anyone. Tuesday brought us the Pokemon Manaphy who will force characters to switch bodies. So if you're playing as Zelda against Donkey Kong, you will become Donkey Kong for a short period of time. And yes, jumping off the edge will still hurt your life/score. Sakurai also brought up the ongoing interviews he has beendoing with President Iwata. Wednesday gave us the new stage based on the original Mushroom Kindgdom called Mushroomy Kingdom. The level moves slowly to the right as you battle in the familiar ruins of the former kingdom. The stage will randomly start off in World 1-2 sometimes too. There's also an updated song to go with this level.
Thursday was more or less filler with a really small update proving that Wii online battles will work as a battle in the Tokyo and Kyoto office takes place. Be sure to check the Japanese site as there is another video on there with Snake fighting. Finally, today's update is rather big. You will be able to play demos of SuperMario Bros., Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Legend of Zelda, Kirby's Adventure,Super Metroid, Star Fox 64 to a bunch of others. The games will have a time limit and some titles will come with save date even. It should also be mentioned that the Japanese version of this page also shows Mother 2 and Fire Emblem as playable demos.
You know that the DOJO was expecting the game to be out by now when they had an update showing them "testing" the Internet battles. Anyway, today's update made this week epic. Sure, the games are just demos and only last for so long, but it's still awesome nonetheless. How much can they fit on this DVD?! What did you think of this week's updates? If I didn't have to buy a new TV, I probably would buy a Wii. I wasn't really interested, but after seeing all this freakish obsession with Brawl, I really want to play it.
I mean, Melee was ok, but GODDAMN Brawl fans are insane.

The part I'm most stoked about is the fact that you can save in some of the games, and that there are "hidden Masterpieces".
If you can save in Super Metroid, that means a skilled player could get through the entire game just via this demo. That brings me to point two.
Mother 2/Earthbound is a masterpiece in the Japanese version of Brawl. Will that also be in the American version? If so, will you be able to play through the whole thing if you get to saves fast enough?
And since Lucas from Mother 3 is a playble character in Brawl, will that game also be playable? Will Sakurai have it translated in English just to exist as a hidden bonus for Brawl?
The demo idea is neat, it'd be nice if playing them in-game led to a special trophy or something. Of course, I already have most of those titles on the VC.
If I hadn't played pretty much every game into the ground, I would be stoked.
As it is, I can only hope that this game works on chipped Wiis. Australian's get the raw end of the deal often enough. I'd hate to have to wait like the rest of the PAL world to play this thing.
It makes me sad that so many people will only buy the Wii for Brawl. There are other games for the Wii that are fun as well but I suppose I can empathize since I honestly doubt anything could make me buy a PS3.
i hope virtual console plans to couple these demo releases by putting the actual games up online (most already are) but it just seems like a smart thing to do
That makes me sad too Vanima, even though Brawl is honestly the only reason I made the jump myself. Galaxy is cool and Mario Kart will be nice, but Brawl is the only game so far that was enough to sell me the system i'll be playing "those other games" on.
This is obviously a trojan horse for their VC among the tykes and the uninitiated. Now what would be nice is if they did have Earthbound as a trojan horse to see if US gamers are interested. Of course we are. But consider the developer we're talking about.
I noticed in the "Iwata Asks" interview about Brawl Iwata said that, if Sakurai hadn't agreed to make a new Smash Bros. game, the plan was going to be to release a Wii version of Melee with online play. They should have done that anyway. If they would have released an online Melee a year or two ago it would have sold like crazy, and it would have held people over until Brawl came out.
I wouldn't be surprised to actually find some full games hidden amongst the masterpieces. Also if the delay was due to localizing Mother 3 then I am all for it. Probably not though
I wonder if those other games that were talked about on the Smash page could include Mother 2 and Fire Emblem? I doubt it for FE, but Mother 2 sounds more than reasonable since it was released here. I also don't think the first Zelda is the only Zelda in there...it is called Masterpieces, so why wouldn't the 'best game ever' not be in there?
How are you supposed to play Super Metroid or Starfox 64 with the Wii-mote though? There ain't enough buttons. Thank God I kept my Gamecube controllers.
