[Update: It looks like GameVideos got another video up. Check it out after the jump as well.]
George Harrison today confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be delayed a few weeks in America. And by a few weeks, he meant February 10th (sorry George, but that's more than a few weeks ... that's several weeks). Like Stephen over at Multiplayer Blog, I too have to wonder why the release is set for a Sunday. In any case, the news is not surprising seeing as how the DOJO took down the December 3rd date a couple of days ago.
In the mean time, we have these new videos from GameVideos to look at and break down. The first video is of Mario and Samus fighting each other and the second video after the jump is Sonic fighting Link.
The first thing I noticed from the the Samus Vs Mario video was that it looks like the intros from the original Smash are going to make it back. Well, sort of -- Mario comes flying out of the Warp Pipe like in the original but Samus comes out like she did in Melee. It's a small detail, but it was something that I missed from the original that they took out in Melee. As the battle goes on, Samus picks up an Assist Trophy and Advance Wars characters come out and attack Mario. Then the Smash Ball comes out and we're shown that you have to break open the Smash Ball in able to use it. Samus breaks it open, charges up her laser and lets Mario have it. Samus's suit breaks apart and the battle continues on. Oh, and it looks like the same announcer voice is back!
More of the same goes on in the Link Vs Sonic battle. They fight on Star Fox's stage which looks pretty awesome. Sonic manages to grab the Smash Ball and he turns into Super Sonic and takes out Link.
Update: The above video shows Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, Princess Peach and Mario in a four way battle. More items are shown off and Diddy Kong uses the Smash Ball in this battle. It looks like you can get in a couple of more hits even when the timer runs out.
What do you all think about the delay news? Pissed off that you have to wait until next year now? Or releaved because you'll have more time to devote to all of the games coming out in the next couple of months?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

I was letdown at first, but after thinking about how many games are coming, I'm somewhat relieved. SMG and Fire Emblem in November alone make me thankful that Brawl will be out in February, when very few games are released. This holiday season is going to hurt.
i think the Big N has purposely done this so as to not cannibalize the sales of Mario Galaxy. It's all about giving their core titles a fair chance at selling substantially,
It sucks... but we have waited this long already, a couple more months is ok. This game looks like it's going to be amazing, so I would rather have them hold it back if they think it's gonna be problems. Polish is always good.
The Advance Wars assist trophy is awesome, and I am happy that the on-field introductions are returning from the original. Everything looks really polished and I agree with those who say Nintendo wanted to generate as many sales as possible for both Galaxy and Brawl. Therefore Brawl is delayed a bit. However, Sonic is in the game, which is sweet. And Snake. This is the earliest contender for Game of the Year in 2008 in my opinion.
Mixed feelings, but I think in the end it'll be a good thing. Gives them time to put more polish on it, and I'd rather they rush out SMG and take the time to really make SSBB the game it deserves to be.
Headset? Online Co-op? Megaman? More Dojo days? We can only hope that this delay is the best thing that could happen for this game.
I'm actually not upset at all. I don't own a Wii yet and was planning on getting one for this and Galaxy, but now i can wait and play all the games that are already coming out this holiday season.
If they're not careful though, God's gonna smite down Brawl because it's getting a tad close to awesomeness, and then I guess we'd all speak Klingon or something.
A lot of really cool stuff going on here (btw, the people that say the Wii is Gamecube 1.5 need to watch the second video) but the coolest thing I noticed is the absolute lack of load time between the character select screen and the action. Just one more thing to like about this game.
I'm kinda relieved also. I just got Phantom Hourglass and am getting Super Mario Galaxy anyway and my poor 360 has been collecting dust. I've been wanting to get The Orange Box, Bioshock and Mass Effect but damn....too much at once! That's not even to mention Christmas and the fact that I'm getting a DS Lite for my girlfriend since she's been yearning for one.
I LOVED the Advance Wars guys in that one video. That was so cool. I really feel like this is going to be the greatest playable fan service in gaming history. No matter when it comes out...
Wow. Seeing Super Sonic flying in space on the Fox stage made me think of the old Doomsday Zone stage. Now I can't wait to see what stage they give the blue blur.
I for one am super GLAD about the delay. Nothing like a rushed game producing "should'ves and s'posedtas" to depress a fan. The longer the wait, the more this already amazing looking game will near absolute perfection.
I'm disappointed that the game is being delayed like everyone else, but I can't say I'm surprised in the least. This is NINTENDO. Anyone who has been a long-time fan of Nintendo knows that they delay pretty much all of their AAA titles. I remember back in the day there was a substancial delay for The Legend of Zelda ALTTP and while I was disappointed as a kid, I took it in stride knowing that the game would be worth it (and it was). This one is no exception; it's the same song and dance that Nintendo has been doing for years. I still have plenty of other games to play.
These videos are awesome. Now I REALLY wish I could play Brawl at E for All :(
After these videos I'm a little worried. Sonic looks like a terrible character in play and the starter characters are lame. I have to fucking unlock Kirby?! That's just fucking lame.
@abort
hopefully is just an early build and there to lazy to add everyone in, and all the characters we've seen so far we be starters in the final version
I'm not really sure why a lot of you guys complain. While it is awful to have to wait even longer for the end product, I am personally of mind to thank greatly the developers and the staff. Too many companies would just do a half-assed job to make sure they got it done by the day they said they were going to release it. It takes a rock solid team that knows when it needs more time to make it right, to take that time and come out on the other end with a much better product.
My friends and I still please Super Smash Brothers Melee and thats mainly due to the amount of time and detail was put into perfecting that game. If it takes them another two months to make the game rock or another six months to make it rock they have my vote to keep it going. I don't want to have to go back to Melee once this comes out.
Some people may be downright disappointed, but I am simply excited to play Brawl. Anyone who sank a meaningful amount of time into Melee is waiting for the first chance they can play the game (E 4 All!), and when they hear about a delay they get pissed for awhile.
(Not to mention that at E3 Nintendo assured us the game would be out by year's end.)
Soon afterwards they remember what they are waiting for - the sequel to the most polished GC game ever released - and they smile to themselves with glee imagining what their first Brawl will be like.
There is enough to play in the fall (and winter) without Brawl being released, but it is Super Smash Bros., man, I have been pumped up for this for years!
I'm pretty sure the character list is just a build they have going for the demos. They probably wanted to show off the newer characters at E-for all. Also, I am dissapointed that it is delayed since I had Dec 3 marked on my calender and was planning launch an all-night party already with my friends, but I've rarely known nintendo not to put a delay to good use and make a great game. The only thing that has me concerned is that the action in those three videos seems slow to me. Like, not as fastly paced as Melee or the videos on the Smash Dojo site. Is that just me? Maybe the demonstrators where just playing slow while they explained the action...
FUCK. This completely destroys my winter break. My and my friends were planning to basically play this game every day when it came out through the end of January. Now, it's coming out when classes are going on. I'm so pissed off right now.

"This Wii, It does nothing!"
Drill Dozer in as an assist trophy? Which video is it in?
Also,
I came at the end of that Diddy Kong video, what a badass remix!

I friggin' hope so! Diddy kong and Sonic as starter characters and Ness, Captain Falcon, and Kirby as unlockables is a really fucking stupid decision.
...or at least gutsman's ass.
