Just as I'm finally tearing my way through Yakuza 3 (review coming soon!), Yakuza 4 releases in Japan this week. That's already enough to make me feel like I'm behind on one of my favorite game franchises. And now we hear that another Yakuza game is in the works?
Famitsu says that a new Yakuza game was annoucned at a presser in Tokyo. They're calling it "Project K," and it's coming from director Toshiro Nagoshi. While it's still too early to call it Yakuza 5, it's still another Yakuza, and we're still running behind!
Famitsu was also nice enough to pass along a write-up of an image trailer shown at the event. From this we know that the next Yakuza is set in Kamurocho again. A young man is seen walking in the rain. The following text appeared on teh screen:
The boy knew it * The graveness of the crimes he continued to commit * But the boy still doesn't know * The cruel fate that awaits * Also, the boy knows * That fighting is his destiny...
A new challenge for Ryu ga Gotoku starts...
Platform and release date were not mentioned in the presentation. I'm pretty sure we know the target platform already.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Oh ok, you can make 6 Yakuza games, but you can't make a sequel to a game that ends with a cliffhanger? Just make Ryo a downloadable skin and I won't even care that it took this long. (Though Yakuza does rock)
Right?!
Suddenly the lack of a Shenmue sequel feels less forgivable.
Activision?
Yeah, I went there.
You inspired me with that comment, so I wrote this:

Do you mean animation wise? If you do, then you would be right. However, when they enter the orphanage their shoes come off automatically, like right after the last step leading in.
Anyway, the more Yakuza games, the better I say. Just as long as we're getting them in the West and for god sake not fricken cuts.
Really? I guess I'll need to take a closer look. I didn't notice any shoes off. It would be nice to have a little animation. The game prevents you from running about indoors anyway, so a short 1 or 2 second animation of Kiryu pushing the shoes to the side or something would be do-able and not interfere with the flow.
I was also a bit disappointed with the cuts. Interactions with hostesses and Japanese history quiz aside, how much work is needed to localize a mahjong and a shogi minigame? They couldn't find time for even that? I suppose that it would be too much to hope that since the content is actually still there, but hidden, we can get it as DLC. Heck,
Oh god, not a Yakuza Wii spin-off. Don't even give SEGA the idea, lol. If anything, I think that the little write-up that Famitsu did seems to indicate that the game may be set in 1995, when all that stuff went down that helped set the events of the first Yakuza into motion.
