Remember last month I told you about Nintendo's new slide controller for the DS? No? I am crushed. Go and check the story out now. I think you'll find the delicate use of metaphor enchanting.

Anyway, for those of you stubbornly refusing to humor me, the gist was that Nintendo is continuing its campaign to get us all playing videogames with anything other than our thumbs by releasing a new gadget which plugs into the DS GBA slot. When placed on a table top, said shimmying marvel allows the DS to be slid in all directions to control the game. Definitely an idea well into the realms of "Could go either way."

The only title mentioned to take advantage of the peripheral so far is Slide Adventure: Mag Kid, a 2D top-down adventure, and it is that very game which Jeux France has secured a video of.

Frankly, the terminally underwhelming nature of it had me draining my keyboard of tears within minutes, and by the time I heard the Japanese narrator gleefully bellow "Minigame!", I was praying for a swift and imminent death. It's early days for the peripheral though, so check it out and see if you think Mag Kid is a basic foundation for a whole new area of DS control or just a tech demo for soon to be forgotten piece of nonsense.

Dude, they should make a Marble Madness DS game that used that peripheral.

It looks neat, but I think this will ultimately end up being a "niche" peripheral.

Unless of course they remake Marble Madness...

Epic. Someone should make a DS Fit game and have Reggie announce it.

I don't think I've ever been so underwhelmed that I was overwhelmed by it, but not it has happened. It sort of tickels.

I guess you can only play this on a nice, smooth surface.

Nintendo brings us a new definition of the word 'portable'.

Next up: a gyro add-on so you can use your DS like those motion-control japanese phones. Which also turns your DS into a Wiimote so you can throw it at your TV. Which then leads to you buying a new DS and total DS sales increasing and aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

That trailer didn't excite me at all. BUT I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff. If it's cheap enough to import and it's not getting horrible reviews I might give it a whirl. I can't tell if it's a bad idea or a good idea.

Wow. Anti-Nintendo fankids were waiting for this to come out so they could make fun of it. Maybe they didn't know they were waiting, but this finally validated their "OMG Wiimote is so gimmicky" rallying cry.

Also, Mag Kid somehow feels like something I've played before (with normal controls), and I wanna go play that instead, so I won't need to pack a mousepad everywhere I take my DS.

hmmm shake it around and have trouble seeing the screen- cool let's make a mini finger mounted light gun next- oooh or maybe you can make something like the super scope- yeah you could mount the ds to the end of it and it would motion sense when you move the scope around..... -trust me if I keep on it I can come up with more ridiculously bad ideas
