It appears that Sony's multiplayer title, Warhawk, will be getting an early release on the PlayStation Network this week. Set to hit the PlayStation Store on Tuesday at 12:01 AM EST, the digital version of the title will cost gamers $39.99.

Retail outlets will also be selling the Blu-ray disc version of the game this week, which will also ship with a Bluetooth headset, and will cost $59.99. Those who decide to go digital will have a slight edge -- Warhawk ships to retail on Tuesday, August 28, which means most stores won't have it on their shelves until the next day.

The has received mostly positive buzz coming out of the public beta, but at least one magazine (PSM) rated the game average, with a 6.5 out of 10.

[Thanks, Action Bastard!]

im getting the dl. the psm review was total crap. ive played the beta and loved every minute of it. the guy who did the review just complained about flying in the game cuz he said he'd die easily but if you know how to play than its no problem to fly around and kill a bunch of people on foot or in the air.

I've heard the flight controls are the deal breaker. Some people have a hard time getting used to it, while others pick it up in no time. A single player mode could have been a big help with getting people adjusted to the controls.

Damn, hate to beat a dead horse to death, but at US $40.00, this game is ten bucks too much as a download.

If you give me half a game, then give it to me at half the price. Didn't we already learn this was the reason Shadowrun sold so poorly?

Multiplayer only games have problems selling for full price.

Can you fly a Warhawk into a BioShock?

Knew I forgot something...

The game itself seems pretty cool and hella fun, but still a little pricey for a download.

@mxyzmplik

Unlike lair you have the option of going to good 'ol fashioned dual-analog control. so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm not sure if I would want the download or to buy the game in the store so I can get the headset. All the other bluetooth headsets cost about as much as downloading the game itself so getting a headset for half the cost sounds pretty good to me.

IDK, Shadowrun WAS 59.99 for the 360. That's waaaay to steep for a multiplayer only game. Although I do think that Warhawk should be $30.00

@brainderailment,

I meant that $60 bucks is too steep for a multiplayer only game. Sometimes I get a wire crossed.

I'll admit that the retail version of Warhawk is worth it. But being charged $40 buck for a download, (as in no physical box or instructions, and no resale value) is downright insulting.

Paying near or full price for a download is not something I want to see grab a foothold this console generation. Plain old DLC is nickel-and-diming us to death already; and yes, I'm looking at you Guitar Hero 2.

Um...what about this story on IGN, posted on Friday 8/24, that said the online release was being pushed back two days to Thursday 8/30, to coincide with the regular weekly PS Store update?

I mean, it doesn’t make a difference to me; I pre-ordered it from Best Buy three weeks ago (that Bluetooth headset is the deal-breaker for me).

It's not really a bad game, you just have to know what kind of game you're getting here. I played the beta, and it was fun. But I sucked and I personally don't like these types of games, so I won't be getting this.

Nick why would you want an advantage when you could be rolling in style? Wtf bro do you not like free loot? Do you just want to make your girls work harder for their money so that big daddy brutal can have his own blue tooth headset? I just don't understand you sometimes sir.

I'm excited for this release ever since I found out there is on-foot and ground vehicle combat, not just air stuff.

I think I'm going to go for the shelf copy.

heh
the review literally said the reasons it was docked was it was online only
and that he died alot in the warhawk
they went through this whole weapon comparing thing there warhawks do less than this and this and that and what not...
kind of amusing...
their review for lair however was spot on, game could be as epic as it wants, toss in shitty motion control as the only way to play it?
nope.

me thinks 40 dollars isnt too much for a game i'm going to play far more than most games i pay 60 dollars for but i can see how others are skeptical especially for a game that doesnt have single player mode.
