I was actually looking forward to this.
Course, they'd probably get lazy and just do 3rd Person Tactical perspective for the entirety of the game.
Anyway....COUNTER-STRIKE, BITCHES.
Sledgehammer included.
I recently borrowed Black Op's from a friend, and while I enjoyed the single player campaign,I personally felt the multiplayer was the same game I got bored with 4 years ago.
I'd like to see them do something different to breathe new life into the series.
The music video for "Sledgehammer" is the dog's bollocks by the way.
I love Northern Kings' cover of the song:

Although I wouldn't say it's their best song (they're an 80s cover band) but I'd have to say it's probably my favorite.
Official word seems to be that it isn't happening now. Sure, they might re-open it one day, but they seem pretty clear that it's currently dead. Not "shelved" like Mirror's Edge.
It sure would suck to become "just another Treyarch". WHAT? If I'm not mistaken Treyarch's last game is the single highest grossing form of digital entertainment. EVER. I think sledgehammer would be pretty all right with that.
Come on Condrey, are you really telling the whole story? An "opportunity we couldn't miss" my ass.
I don't recall saying that "it would suck". I recall saying that *I* wouldn't like it. I'm sure it'd be great for anybody to make loads of money just building off somebody else's franchise. I'm just saying, I'd like to see them tackle something original because I know they've got creative guys there.
Please guys, read articles before responding to them.
I'm personally a fan of Treyarch because of the more "gamey" elements they put in their titles, such as Nazi Zombies, and the interactive title screen in Black Ops/etc. Infinity Ward is way too serious with their games - also, Treyarch's level design methodology is brilliant.
Speaking of "building off prior success" - see your recent Angry Birds video - Rovio did the same thing - putting a new sheen [Zombies] on an existing genre.
But it IS bad to be Treyarch. No matter how much money they make, they were never able to create a new series on their own and succeed. Any game they made pretty much sucked. CoD isn't their baby. In fact, their CoD games play and look worse than the ones from IW before they got gutted. Treyarch is not the most talented developer in the industry. They aren't horrible, but all they've proven is that they can paint by numbers once someone else does all the hard work to make an IP success.
Not that it helps that this is Activision. All one need to do is look at Raven Software's game Singularity to see that good and original just means they'll send it out to die. But Tryearch isn't the developer anyone should be holding up as a prodigy in the industry.
Perhaps you should consider the timeline of events with Condrey's statements. Sledgehammer was founded in November 2009. This means that if they worked on the game for 6 months, they stopped working on it in May 2010.
Now consider what happened in May 2010: The mass exodus of employees away from Infinity Ward. Court documents, filed by Activision in that month, show that work was already underway for Modern Warfare 3. So, Sledgehammer, the new dev studio working on the series, is presented with the opportunity to get their name out by working on the biggest title in the series (pre-order numbers were confirmed by Activision to be on pace to break those of Black Ops), which can lead to a larger fanbase when you release something that is different to the series.
I honestly see nothing wrong with his use of the past tense when referring to the game either. After all, it has been a year and 3-4 months since they last worked on it. Everything I have read points to them working on this game to ensure that it makes it our of the door on time, and then they'll be returning to their project. Speculation on the use of past tense when referring to a game, is rather ridiculous in my opinion.
@Jesse7277
"Your tone implied that it is "bad" to be treyarch. I was merely pointing out that they're one of the most successful studios in gaming right now."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA thanks man I needed a good laugh.
