I've long argued that motion controls, when done properly, could indeed enhance the experience, and this game is proof. And for all the fans who feel like Nintendo needs to cater to them: if they did, we'd be on like Ocarina of Time 5 by now.
And isn't those same people's general complaint about Nintendo is that all of their games are the same? Wha? *facepalm*
I WANT OPTIONS. I know how skyward sword was, I played it through and got used to the controls. Trust me, it doesn't add all that much to the game that brings enjoyment. I shouldn't be getting tired of holding a controller a certain way to do things when I could be relaxing if I choose to and masterfully move my fingers to victory.
These fking elitist assholes posting how everyone who doesn't like motion should just deal with it need to learn their place. Theres no excuse to not give options on controls. This isn't the 90's where the best way was the only way. Now theres so many ways to do controls theres no excuse to just push on the unmatured motion that requires you to 'work' to play rather than use your hands.
I freaking love Nintendo but they seriously drifting into stupid territory this gen.
"Having to add traditional controls to that would add more work which means more time and money being poured into the game. Not just for the control scheme, but animations would need to be changed, and the control methods for items and many other uses within the game.
... Maybe I'm just spouting nonsense."
You sort of are. It'd be a lot easier to implement traditional controls from their end with a few simple variables rather than after the fact with a shitload of dirty scripting for a Dolphin plugin. The animations didn't need to be changed at all, they look fine. For the most part it just makes the game feel more responsive. Stuff like rolling bombs is a little awkward, but no more than doing it their way.
It would be absolutely great if they gave us button options along with motion control options, but Eiji is probably going to be way too over his head about how "great" the motion controls are and how "important" they will be for the franchise that he wouldn't even give us the choice.
Seriously, that swimming fetch quest near the end sucked.
And a Mouse and Keyboard!
MAKE IT HAPPEN OR SCREW YOU EIJI!
You people need to get out of your shells and enjoy the intended experience, stop being so damn protective of your controllers. What you're asking for is not OPTIONS but COMPROMISE, and compromise is a bad thing.
@Jibberwocky
Just no. Trying to remap the controls is an exercise in frustration and only ends up with a broken game, losing the ENTIRE point of the motion controls (seamless switches from mechanic to mechanic, proper sword control and subtlety). It's not even close to the real thing.
How is bomb rolling hard in Skyward Sword?
Am I the only person that realised you need space to hang your arm over where you're sitting and point the Wiimote down (then you just swing it up to roll stuff)? It's so easy.
@Meryc
I loved that section, I was worried they were going to have bugger all swimming in the game and miss out of its potential.
The game gives you more control than pretty much any other game with swimming, you can dash, quickturn (stop swimming and Link can turn on a dime), easily get to the surface etc. That said, not everyone likes water sections.
I'd like to see something in the vain of the really great DS Zelda's to put the tablet to use, but frankly I'm not opposed to JUST motion controls. Lots of people seem to dislike them, but I think they're fine.
@jmoschmo
Its like Star Wars. We have no say in how we get it or what gets done to it because "its Lucas' story". Any medium can take this approach, including video games. Options are, basically, just the developers being nice -its not something they HAVE to do.
No? I played it with motion controls for a good six hours and while they were serviceable I didn't feel like they made the game any better. So then I tried it in Dolphin with a Dualshock 3 and found I could lose myself in the game in a way that motion controls weren't allowing me to do, and not only that, but I was faster and more accurate. Thats me, enjoying the game more because I can choose my preferred input method. Why is this concept so hard to understand?
As far as bomb rolling, no shit, of course that's how you do it. And if you don't have the space you're talking about? That means either standing up or holding the controller in an awkward position. Both options break immersion.
Motion controls are MORE accurate and to say otherwise is to come off like a total moron.. also you don't have to stand up, you don't use that much energy you fat fucks. I sit on the floor or in a rocker chair and play it for a few hours at a time. Pussies.. Nobody is catering to your bullshit.
