In the last year or so, games on the Xbox 360 have started to expand to two (Mass Effect 2) and sometimes even three (L.A. Noire) discs. When it comes to the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series, you would be forgiven for thinking that the colossal world, characters, and environments of Skyrim would need maybe four or five. As it turns out, it needs just the one.
Bethesda art director Matt Carofano has confirmed that you won't need to get up off the couch to change discs in between battling dragons and marrying Khajiits. Carofano has also said that the world of Skyrim is roughly the size of Oblivion, only way more dense. With that in mind, it comes as a surprise that only one disc is needed for what is potentially one of the biggest games of the year. Well, big as in massive, not disc requirement. Oh, you know what I mean.

Well besides having to change discs. It's just nice to not have to be able to do that even though it would only have to be done once per playthrough.
Now having to change discs for games like Dead Space 2 just pisses me off. What made it have to be 2 discs? Like, really.
THIS is how open world games need to be. I'm tired of games boasting that their worlds are 3 times the size as the previous game, but all it really results in is hundreds of miles worth of traveling everytime you want to start a new mission.
Add to that that Bethesda games are the only time where the open world traveling felt truly optional and up to the player when they wanted to explore, as opposed to other games where you have to spend 5 minutes or more just to quick travel, and I'm officially excited

Beyond the intro, Bethesda uses mostly in game cut scenes. I guess this is good for people who hate swapping discs.

I live multiple discs. It reminds me of the good ok days on PS1. I personally love the satisfaction of moving onto the next disc when playing a long game. Since you can use it to factor it as how close you are to the end.
If we were switching discs like back with the PC where you would have 7 discs and flop between them all constantly that's understandable.
Lastly like it was said if you own a 360 and complain about multiple discs you should have gotten a PS3.

I own a PS3, 360 AND a kick ass gaming computer. I win.
I only have an Xbox but I'd gladly buy a PS3 if I had time to play the pile of games I already own. I also still talk to my PS3-owning friends, despite their obvious mental deficiencies.
