Skyrim sells around 3.5 million copies in 48 hours photo

Bethesda has officially announced news that will shake the Earth -- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had a successful launch! The publisher boasted "more than fifty perfect review scores" and expected global sales worth $450 million.

"More than 50% of launch units were sold in the first 48 hours and Bethesda Softworks has been receiving large reorders from major retailers in  North America, and across Europe and Australia," stated the company. "Online activity has been notable, with Steam reporting that in the first 24 hours of its release, Skyrim set a record with over 280,000 concurrent players, far outdistancing all other titles.

"The eagerly-awaited title has garnered more than 50 perfect review scores, earning praise from some of the industry’s most influential and respected critics including: USA Today, G4TV, GameSpy, Wired, Eurogamer, Destructoid, GamePro, Official Xbox Magazine, Joystiq, The Guardian, and GamesRadar."

Bethesda said it shipped seven million units to retailers and sold over half of them. Doing the math, Skyrim sold at least 3.5 million copies with 48 hours. Just think about that. That's almost half the amount of quests that I have incomplete in my Skyrim journal! Amazing!

It's well damn deserved, it has taken over my life, and told all of my other recent gaming purchases to go get fucked by a giant. Hats off to everyone at Bethesda, they truly made an RPG masterpiece. Now I must go complete my ebony armor set!

Skyrim was sold on for the PS3 at Walmart and at Futureshop two days after release; however, CoD MW3 was a good 50 copies deep for the PS3 and almost sold on on the 360 at Walmart.

I got the last copy of Skyrim at the Superstore.

Best RPG of the year.. and, in 2011, that's saying something. Witcher 2, Dragon Age 2, Dark Souls.. maybe third time is the charm?

I have a conference presentation today, another one tomorrow am attending the AAR conference in san fran on Friday-sunday, have 4 final papers due within a month....

And just got to level 20 in skyrim! Uncovered 101 map locations, killed 8 dragons (including a fight with two at a time), became a werewolf, led a revolt from prison, found 6 seeing stones so far. I love this game! How can a make a living simply playing this game? U must know! This is why games exist. Fuck, this is why people exist!

An amazing game. It deserves the sales and accolades. I'm glad to be a gamer and playing this. Spent a lot of time just wandering and staring at the Northern Lights at night. Then I shoot lightning bolts at rabbits. A perfect world for sure.

This game. Is too good. Like, too fucking good. No other game has ever come to the level of immersion this game has, and that's what I play my games for. Not as escapism, but simply to experience other worlds. And skyrim is my favourite world to live in for sure. Apart from, you know, real life and stuff.

hardy83: There's a reason I put it in quotes. 10/10 shouldn't mean perfect, but it *should* mean the current game to beat in its genre, which is how I used it. It is not perfect, but it is -- in my opinion -- the top dog of Western RPGs.

Nothing is perfect, but if we said that's what 10/10 meant, there'd be no point even having the number.

$450 million from ~3.5million copies? According to Wikipedia, MW3 grossed $400 million from ~6.5 million copies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_3

They must mean $450 from selling to retailers since 7 million units would be closer to that figure versus 3.5 million (which would be ~$210million in sales to regular folks if I'm mathing right.)

I have a problem with that line.

Most ''influencial & respected including'' Uh-uh. nononono. I don't think anybody from Xbox magazine is well respected, same goes for Gamespy or Joystiq. Especially Joystiq.

I was enjoying this game immensely and ready to call it one of my favorite games of 2011. However, it wasn't about to crack my top 10 all time or anything, and there was nothing especially memorable about it.

...and then I got to a place called Blackreach. If you're playing this game, I hope you have the opportunity to check it out at some point. Seeing this place was absolutely one of the most jaw-droppingly stunning moments I've ever had in a video game and firmly cemented Skyrim's place in my top 10 all-time favorite games.

Easily, without question or ambiguity, Game of the Year.

Oh come one trolls, troll better. Modern Warfare 3 is better? Get creative. Aspire to be the type of troll that Destructoid deserves. Where's the love for hate? Where's the passion? Serve up your disdain and dismay on a silver platter for us so that we may feast upon your toxic words like sabre tooth tigers devouring a mammoth corpse.
