At this time the issue has been worked around so... carry on?
I'm sure this patch was just something that is demanded by Steam policy, or something. The guys behind Skyrim LOVE all the tweaks and mods people come up with, I heard in a recent interview.
Leave it to Bethesda to make a game, set in a snowy world, without footsteps in the snow, in the year 2011.
Even Mario 64 could deliver that. Bethesda - Polish is bad.
........ its just pathetic that their fans are having to tackle the actual game play issues with "unofficial" patches and their first patch does absolutely jack shit.
would it have been too damn much to ask that they bundle their bullshit patch with some game fixes?
I should create a game "uCode" sell it for $59.99. It will come with one blank .txt file and the fans can code whatever they like!
It will be the sandbox game of the century, nay the Milenia!!1!1!1oneon!!1!one11!1!ONE ONE ONE 1!!!!
Yeah, well at least *I* can play on my 360 without an internet connection :-P
Actually, the only people this affects is people who bought the game legitimately, and it affects all of them. This doesn't affect pirate copies in the slightest.
For those who say "what's the big deal?" - let me explain my reason for why I dislike steam. I have steam on my computer. I have paid for games on steam. It's not a bad system. But please understand that not all of us have the latest, greatest, fastest, most-badass PC of all time. In fact some of us are on budget laptops that can barely handle a lot of modern games if at all.
Maybe I lost your sympathy right there, because I'm neither rich nor obsessed with spending all my disposable income on hardware, but running steam slows my laptop down. I will play games on steam *if I absolutely must*, but otherwise I avoid it like the plague, unless I want my games to run even more slowly than they already would.
So yes, this sucks.
@Dhaos
it's of course beth's thing. Just because they have choosen Steam and steamworks.
Oh wait I bought it on steam in the first place. Phew!
"Us?"
What are you, part of the swarm or the collective or the phalanx or something.
You are legion!
Also, what are you people running steam on? 486 processors or something?
yes, if it was released like this (as intended) in the first place, it wouldn't be news and people wouldn't bitch about it. people would bitch hard about the game not using more than 2gb RAM and not knowing how to fix that at first. the fact, that bethesda programmers hands seem to be always growing out of their asses, is what offends.
I think throwing a fit over this is nonsense, but it deserves to be questioned. Bethesda just made a pirated copy more consumer friendly than the Steam version for no apparent reason, and that is fucking dumb.
Uh no, it's actually the complete opposite. It is; "How am I going to play my legit copy now that Bethesda has removed my crash fixes and added none of their own now? The only way is to pirate a pre-patch copy of the game".
Also everybody thinking that a Steam patch magically fucks pirates over is a dumbass. Every steam "update" for major games gets released by crackers for pirates to use. Not to mention pirated steamworks products are extracted and completely detached from Steam, so the updates such as the one in this article ARE NOT applied to pirated copies. Making this update in particular update pointless.
The game shipped as a Steamworks title, but you didn't even need Steam installed or something? Is this how Super Meat Boy works, too? (I think I heard something about that...)
