Skyrim gets Creation Kit, high-res textures, and a sale photo

The Creation Kit for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is here, which to me feels like we're only just at the very beginning of what the game will one day become. Steam Workshop is supported, allowing players to more easily view and install custom creations such as the above-pictured mod.

The promised surprise is none other than a high-resolution texture pack. Assuming you have the necessary hardware to handle the boost in visual fidelity, head to Skyrim's store page in Steam to download the pack for free. And if you've been waiting for the price to drop, the game is currently being sold for $39.99.

Dear Destructoid,

Please report on the absurd amount of time it is taking for Bethesda to fix the defective product that they sold to PS3 owners. If EA cant get away with promising bonus content like the BF1943 fiasco then Bethesda shouldn't be allowed to get away with selling a broken product to a third of their fans and receive nothing but praise because they made a creation kit. This kind of theft and negligence is unprecedented in the industry and deserving of ample coverage.

Love, Browneye

As a Skyrim player and with ps3 being my main platform, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. I must however point out that the ps3 players are only a third of their customers from a platform sense. I'm not sure what the numbers are but if ps3 players actually represent a third of skyrim players I would be very surprised. This does not, however, negate the validity of your point at large.

Or if you own the PS3 version, a version of the game that we can only vaguely image may come.

Well there are already 2 different mods that remove the guardsmen saying that "arrow to the knee" line. Well good the see the community trying to improve the internet as a whole.

I dont have a doubt in my mind that my situation probably represents less than a third of Skyrims sales. However that dose not justify our plight being swept under the rug.

I payed for this product day one and three months(1/4 of a year) has already gone by where it is still unplayable. I was expecting bugs, game breaking saves, and a rocky road of patches but I most certainly did not expect the game to suffer chugs as low as 0-5 FPS after only playing for 15 minutes.

This should NEVER be acceptable or go unreported and yet its being met with nothing but GOTY praise.

It is theft, it is wrong.

Thus I implore Destructoid to echo these crimes.

Browneye, I'm right behind you. I experience no lag, but instead, NPCs and objectives simply do not load in. Literally, I will go to a quest waypoint and the arrow will be pointing to an open clearing of ground, where an NPC the game should have loaded in would theoretically be standing.

In one "capture this stormcloak fort" instance, the game just ceased to present me with anyone to fight. Out of ten painstaking reloads, only twice did anyone appear, and in those instances as soon as I stepped through the archway of the fort, whoever was around would just suddenly disappear (despite the fact that I had already killed 80% of them), making the quest impossible to complete.

I might also mention that this was back in November; ie. about the time my fury became greater than my desire to play. And now, I, too, have a day one purchase of a personally beloved franchise sitting on my shelf, for no clearly defined reason. The situation has gone beyond unacceptable.

As a PS3 user with no 360 or PC that even comes close to running Skyrim it's a shame that the PS3 version sounds so bad. I was considering getting it at one point, but if it is as bad as it sounds I'll wait until it's fixed. I suppose you could call that a boycott of sorts.

You know, if they're gonna add Steam Workshop support to other games, how about Garry's Mod? Would be perfect for that game, especially if they'd integrate it with the toybox.

Is anyone else's game crashing to desktop after only a few minutes? As soon as I downloaded the high rez texture pack and fired that bitch up, it plays fine for a few minutes and dies. Anyone?

Also the HD texture pack isn't worth the 3gb it uses up. The difference is so minimal that you only notice it on a handful of objects and surfaces.

It's ridiculous that they haven't gotten the game running properly yet on the PS3, it's been out almost 3 months. You guys have every right to be angry.

@TheNephilym:
Can you toggle it on and off by selecting texture quality in options? Or are you stuck with it if you install it?

@TheNephilym:

I have the same problem, only before my game crashes, some of the textures turn super low res. I have been searching forums to see how to uninstall the DLC pack, but it doens't look promising.

Once the DLC is installed, Steam sees it as part of the game file, even if you uninstall and reinstall, I think the DLC reinstalls back with the main game.

In conclusion, :(

When you guys get to the launcher, go under "data files" and unselect "highrespack01.esp" and "highrespack02.esp." I haven't tried uninstalling it, but you can at least disable it. Games running fine now.

Not really a good sale as its still 5€ cheaper retail where I live. 33€ vs 28€ retail.

LOL. This is the crappiest 'High-Res Texture' package I have ever downloaded. The unofficial mod one looks 10x better.

Seriously, the difference with this 3GB is MINIMAL at best. Absurd.

As a matter of fact Rammstein, I also had the choice to pick it up on other consoles. I was simply hopeful that Bethesda's track record with PS3 productions would be broken with Skyrim's release.

But I realize you're just being a nonsensical troll, as per. Carry on.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Bethesda said that they couldn't fix the PS3 issues, because the problem had something to do with the PS3? I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that somewhere. It sucks, and I'm sorry for everyone with the PS3 version. I have the PC version, and it runs at 60 fps at all times, and I couldn't imagine being able to even try to play it at anything below 40, let alone 0-10 fps.

I don't know anyone that has the xbox version, but I always wanted to know, does the xbox version of Skyrim run like shit too? Or is it playable?

My friend had the same issue too. Turns out he had to do something really simple. You're supposed to sit on a couch while you play, he said he enjoyed it afterwards.*trollface*
