Conversely: Timed Exclusive XBOX360 DLC: Surprise of the Century!
PS3, PC fans when they get things first: Ah, okay. that's a great business move by (company). that's why i use there products.
PREFRENCES! FLYING! GLOBETROTTING!
I guess MS thinks that if you own both consoles you will buy the 360 version because of the "timed" DLC?
Doesn't apply to me :P
Umm, I actually dislike it either way. But, okay, I'll accept that your strawman probably represents more people than I'd like to admit.
Seriously. I was thinking about pre-ordering Skyrim, but now I feel as if I would be pre-ordering an incomplete product.
You are not alone in that feeling mate. That's why I usually wait till the "goty/ultimate" edition comes out before I purchase. Because that's the finished product.
Agreed, promising you DLC before launches does give off that incomplete vibe, but you know, more ways for them to take our money.
The dev's can use the early release on 360 to iron out some bugs before the PS3 release.
Similar to what happens with COD map packs.
Besides,I highly doubt I'll be very far in the game before the DLC hits anyway.
It makes developers look sloppy and there's the obvious questions people should ask themselves but avoid it because it's the norm:
" why Is this dlc ? Why wasn't it just part of the game? "
I think it's a bummer DLC has gotten so bloated and stupid.
Never buy non goty edition bethesda stuff, your just screwing yourself over especially if you play on a non 360 system.
So .. how does the PC go about paying for timed exclusive DLC? How does that actually work? The only similar event I can think of is when the PC version is made first and the developers need extra time to create a console version, or they need the PC profits to finance a console version, but then again, that's a completely different scenario than a publisher selling timed exclusive DLC rights to a console manufacturer.
This looks like Microsoft's strategy going forward, at least for the core demographic. Most of their internal resources are given to Kinect, so they buy timed exclusive DLC for third-party franchises in order to generate sales.
I'm actually more disappointed in Bethesda. Microsoft really has little choice, as they aren't doing very much else for gamers, but this is a simple cash-grab for Bethesda, and a "fuck you" to a majority of their customers.
On a side note I never buy DLC, I pirate it O_o *yarr*.
Usually I would agree with.you but a game that has hundreds of hours of gameplay doesn't really fit the bill. Also like anything (movies, books) things get edited for all sorts of reasons. It's not always a money grab. sometimes a developers ambition doesn't work with deadlines and such.
"Microsoft really has little choice, as they aren't doing very much else for gamers"
Well they could choose to start making or financing exclusive content, its not like they don't have the money, mate. :)
This is about videogames... there seriously shouldn't be this much spin being put into video games. Fuck.
they really should make a good old 25/30$ expansion pack for this game. maybe the reason why we dont see those anymore is that it takes a lot of space on a harddrive and consoles especially the 360 wont allow 5gb expansions on xbla than again they could just do it on disk like with oblivion.
O.M. You're not alone. This really pisses me off.
Bethesda have made a business decision that, in the long run, affects no-one negatively.
