Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may be the biggest game to hit this week, but the most talked-about is definitely The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In fact, Skyrim might be an even bigger hit than Modern Warfare 3 -- at least on Steam, where it nabbed 231,593 users within twenty-four hours!
By comparison, Activision's mass-marketing powerhouse welcomed 78,161 players within the same period. Bethesda's RPG has completely eclipsed Call of Duty on Steam, and one can only assume it'll be getting more and more users over the coming weeks.
That's absolutely ludicrous, but I cannot say it's not well deserved. Skyrim is, hands-down, my game of the year so far, and with a little over a month left of 2011, I can't see that changing.
Skyrim reaches nearly 250,000 concurrent Steam users on day one, topples MW3 [PC Gamer]

*continues to play Dragon Age: Origins*
Still not interested in the game, but much <3 to Beth. Softworks! A group of gents, really.
*Continues to wait for Serious Sam 3: BFE*
I'll pick it up after Serious Sam 3: BFE(Also known as Game of the year ALL YEARS), but much <3 to Beth. Softworks! A group of gents, really.
*continues to play EvE Online*
I'll pick it up in a few weeks.
*continues to play Skyrim*
What? Seriously though, my only complaint thus far is the crappy UI they have. Just going to have t wait for the moding community to do something about it I guess.
*continues to play Skyrim*
*continues the wait Skyward Sword & Diablo 3*
Well I guess that means you're not the one reviewing Skyward Sword then Jim. Lol
Yeah, PC controls could use some alterations. Seems they got the axe as usual. Navigating those menus can really dragon.
I'm Breton the Modding guilds can conjure up something. They seem pretty Azura themselves.
I do wish some single player something would come along and cool COD down, though.
If for no other reason than to show pubs that theres still money in solid single player efforts...maybe then we'd stop seeing half hearted campaigns?
This news concerns me, though. If the trend continues, studios might knee jerk more single player stuff towards pc only in an attempt to stay ahead of the curve.
That's just the number of people playing the game at the same time. IT's safe to assume that the number of purchases is considerably higher in order to support those concurrent numbers.
Thanks for answering my question, I might check it out then.
Despite what some have said, I feel the inventory is much more of a pain to navigate. Instead of just opening the menu and choosing each category from a horizontal menu and choosing items form a vertical one, you got this stupid cross thing where you point different directions to get to different sub menus.
The 'Quest' menu isn't even included. It's all alone in the start menu. That should have been a key indicator that their menu system isn't very efficient.
The skills menu is crazy. Scrolling around a night's sky is cool and all, but you can only see a few skills at a time instead of several in a basic linear menu.
And by god, what the fuck is up with the favorites menu? Why can't you just map your favorites to a direction button? Pausing the game to select different gear really kills the immersion. It's probably my least favorite thing about the UI overall.
All in all, it actually takes more commands and more time to get from one thing to the next. I seriously hope modders work on "oldschool" menu mod for the game, so I can go back to the days when menus work intuitively.
Otherwise, probably my favourite game of the year (it has yet to beat Portal 2 though)
No one cares.
" I still don't buy that Skyrim is something exceptional, think its just overhyped so people want to try it."
... but you think Zelda and Diablo AREN'T overhyped and will be exceptional?
... oookay then.
Boring? Mediocre? Game where you're just waving crap around?
That sounds like the perfect description of Oblivion right there!
More bugs, jankiness, and bad storytelling though...
Skyward Sword on the other hand is the most inventive game of the year, not Oblivion 2.0.

I'll be getting Skyrim eventually, I genuinely believe it's the best Bethesda style game yet. I highly doubt I would be able to ignore its flaws though.
The game has freaking invisible walls for crying out loud. That is stupid in this day and age.
The silly game reviewer community creamed themselves over Oblivion too, and that was a mess.
I'm not sure whether to get it soon or wait for the GOTY edition. It's the expansions that have the BEST content most generally, Shivering Isles is proof of that. Fallout 3 and it's utterly horrid original ending is too.
Still, I'm loving it.
Everyone should play it. It's incredible.
I'm lovin' it, too, man. That previous post is all the negativity you'll get out of me. Hell, now that I got that off my chest, I can get over it and go back to enjoying the fuck out of Bethesda's Masterpiece.
You are correct sir
If you get the physical version, you get a badass, high-quality map. I purposely opted out of a Steam download just for it, and it is totally worth it. It looks great.
Yay for me?
*Continues to wait for Mass Attack.
