We’ve all been waiting for Skate 2 for a long time. Ever since the original skate. revolutionized skateboarding videogames back in 2007, gamers have been looking forward to a bigger, better, and more badass sequel. Oh, wait ... that’s Gears of War 2. Well, from the reviews quoted in the Skate 2 commercial above, the billing that Cliff Bleszinski gave Gears 2 is just as applicable to this game.

Skate 2 boasts greatly improved online functionality, a PSN/XBL demo (I’ve downloaded it, but haven’t tried it out yet), and steaks for press -- and it’ll be available tomorrow, January 21st, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Sadly, it appears that it’ll also be the last game by EA Black Box, which, reportedly, is being closed down. Be on the lookout for the Destructoid review so you can find out whether Skate 2 is, indeed, a glorious swan song for the studio.

I'll get this during the summer. I just got through the first one a few weeks ago and I need more time in between.

Although I played the demo and I got a Tony Hawk flashback/vibe (a handful of new moves, feels looser and more forgiving, different level designs, but same ol' same ol').

I was REALLY looking forward to this game, but after the demo, I don't think I'll be buying this. I still can't explain exactly why I don't like it. The environments seemed uglier and there is strange slowdown when jumping into an open area.

Overall I don't think they made enough improvements over skate. to warrant a purchase. At least until it gets cheap.

I will buy this to support the notion that games are recession proof.

demo was shit.

hands looked stupid as fuck when you fell off the board, camera might as well be at home masturbating because it sure is hell isn't staying focused on the the task at hand and the walking/running is bullshit.

the only thing that's slighty improved was the ragdoll isn't like throwing sack of potatoes around, the limbs move a bit more, but that's the only good thing i can say about the demo.

hopefully, a miracle happened and the actual game is different than the demo (though this has never happened with a game before)

well, i have been playing the demo all week and really enjoying it. It feels smoother and more responsive than the first. Yeah, it suffers from a little slowdown. but, shit, so did the first and it didn't stop me or cause too many problems then. Im really looking forward to a more skate-able city as i felt the first time around it all felt a little empty.

Lets have it :D

Does this one handle stairs any better than the first? Like, can you just fucking walk up them? Trying to make your way around a spot with no ramps kinda blows. Or maybe I just suck.

I can't wait, going to pick it up tomorrow. The demo is great, regardless of what people say. Sometimes you have to sacrifice A LITTLE BIT of realism for some gameplay.

(btw, it ships today, and stores will have it tomorrow)

Giggles to that quote. For those who don't know, Koston has been in a few Tony Hawk games.

@Char Aznable
Yes, you can just walk up stairs. Although in the demo the walking controls are a little clunky. Not too big a deal though, it's all about the skating after all.
