Skate 2 patch available today, fixes a lot of stuff photo

A beefy (and kickin’ rad) patch is now available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of EA Black Box’s Skate 2. The list of fixes, tweaks, and improvements is so large I had to include it post-jump. Below are a few of the major things that Black Box addressed with the free patch:

  • Improve responsiveness of off-board controls, modified left stick behavior to improve feel of off-board movement
  • Added support for custom soundtracks for the PS3
  • Reduce potential for pedestrians to spawn in an active challenge location
  • All Thrasher challenges unlock properly in the career progression

I don’t know about you guys, but the clunky off-board stuff gave me fits when I first tried the game. I’ll definitely be revisiting New San Vanelona in the near future thanks to this patch. I'm wondering though -- and I believe this goes to show how much I was able to play -- if Black Box addressed everything that needed fine-tuning. What do you guys think?

  • Improve responsiveness of off-board controls, modified left stick behavior to improve feel of off-board movement
  • Eliminate scoring exploit for Hippie Jump 180s in multiplayer Spot Battle
  • Eliminate the wipeout exploit with off-board and the Superdude trick
  • Fixed mute and stale grab tricks to use proper hand when performed in conjunction with a hand gesture
  • Fix the occasionally popping of visual indicators (sign-ups, arrows, etc)
  • Added support for custom soundtracks for the PS3
  • Face and Body settings will now load properly in saved replays
  • Character models will be in high detail when viewing a replay
  • Visual indicators (sign-up icons/arrows) are no longer visible in replays and videos
  • Remove the confirmation pop-up when retrying a challenge
  • Reduce potential for pedestrians to spawn in an active challenge location
  • Modified "Can you spell Girl?" challenge so the player starts with the lead
  • Remove the 3,2,1 countdown when retrying a film challenge
  • All Thrasher challenges unlock properly in the career progression
  • When starting an Own the Spot via the Challenge Map, the player's session marker is automatically set for them
  • Updated the online mini-map so skaters appear as the same color indicated in the player HUD
  • Improved quality of character images generated for display on skate.reel web profiles
  • EXP is no longer awarded for players that don't attempt a trick during a Ranked game of S.K.A.T.E.
  • Modified deathrace intro sequences to eliminate camera clipping
  • Online Freeskate Activities (Survival) - Increase the tolerance for ‘skating too slowly' while in the air
  • Online Spot Battle/Hall of Meat - Spectators can again trigger hand gestures during another player's turn

So now the movement isn't as terrible?

I might just pick this up, then.

I would like to know just how much less terrible. My want for this game is directly proportional to the fixedness of the off-board controls.

Thank god, The countdown in film challenges pissed me off. The No comply glitch does still work.

Wow, the full list of fixes is actually really good, its just too bad I played through the whole game already, dealing with those problems.

Getting rid of the retry confirmation and film countdown would have been a god-send on some of those trickier challenges.

Setting the restart point only makes sense as well for challenge map OTS rounds.

A friend of mine had problems with the Thrasher career, I wonder if it will be fixed for him now (at least this was one problem that didn't effect me).

This is a great patch.
I might give this game another try now.

I can confirm that walking no longer feels like Resident Evil and the "Can You Spell Girl" Challenge is a cake walk now. Hooray.

OMG it actually uses the media bar for custom music =D
Game runs a lot smoother too. Used to flicker between 30fps and 60fps but it's almost constantly at 60fps now.
The off board mechanics are still a bit iffy, I mean, you can't move the camera around with the right stick, which isn't ideal, but oh well. At least you don't move like a tank now.

I'm surprised that falling two stories from a fall doesn't leave a scratch on you.

Now that the off-board controls are tweaked, I'd like to try them out to see if they're bearable.

@ Pyramid Head

No, it was that he did some of the Thrasher arc, and then there were no more "T" icons on the challenge map, and even after he finished the Skateboard Mag career arc, as well as teh vert, street, and downhill contests, he's still stuck half-way through the Thrasher career with no challenges availible. It is weird.

I know he hasn't done the Dunk Slam challenge yet, but I'm not sure what the last one he completed was. He drained all the pools and fountains except for the dam, b/c thats the last Thrasher misson of course.

I went over to his house and tried to figure it out myself, but I was stumped.

Sweet, can't wait to get home and download this patch. Just wished the patch came a little sooner, the countdown removal on retries would have been nice. I had also given up on the "Can you spell Girl" challenge. Stupid Kotson never fell.

@ TheDreadHawk & AKK

Seriously, I can't believe that you guys are basing your purchase of this amazing 'skateboarding' game on how well the dude can walk when hes not even on the board!? Its not an essential element. Its a basic structure so that you can walk up a staircase. This isn't a parkour game :P

Although, I didn't buy GTA4 because he didnt eat the hotdogs very realistically.
