I purchased the first pack the instant it was released, but I think I'll skip this and wait for a bundle or price drop... and that makes me sad, but I just can't support it for that cost.
$2 a pop doesn't pay the bills.
Think about how many people will ACTUALLY get the characters...
While 2 bucks would entice players to buy them, they would have to at least double in numbers to cover the profit they could've gotten with 5 bucks.
I mean, I'm all for cheap DLC too, but I would also like to see MORE of them (coughMarvelvsCapcom3cough)

And don't get me started on buying "skins", something developers used to willingly include in games -for free- before this whole DLC nonsense started.

I don't even own MK9, BUT I'll buy the DLC. 5 Bucks is hella reasonable for any fighting game character.
I paid $60 for the game. Its a great game, but $60 is a high price to pay. Adding $5 per character is crazy, and paying for it just tells devs to rape your wallet more. I want this character, but I won't pay $5. I make plenty of money, but would you buy a $10 candy bar? YOU POOR BRO? YOU POOR!?
I LOVE the new MK from what little I got to play, but in this trying age and time its rare to find software that is fully valued at 60$. Let's buy like smart gamers, Its worth sacrificing a little playtime to ultimately get the same game at a cheaper price! Then you ultimately don't have to worry about add-on content charges, it would hurt less
If they bundle the DLC, then that would be even better
Or we could not buy their over priced DLC and demand a full game. I can't tell you how many games have jaded me this generation, releasing DLC day one, not testing a game and releasing it broken constantly saying a patch is on the way.
Remember how games were without being constantly being connected to the internet? No patches, no DLC, just a game. A full game. Not to mention the games were cheaper.
I know it'll never happen, but I wish DLC just stopped existing. Things that are DLC now feel cut from the game, or like they should have just been kept for the sequel.

The price for this dlc is fine. Your buying a new character with a full move set, ladder integration, fatalities, balancing etc. If you really think 400msp is too expensive I guess you just don't see how much potential play time having a new character can add.
No. The dev team has to work on a lot of stuff just to put in ONE character. Balancing, movelists, storyline, voice acting fees, etc. All of this costs $. If I just spent all of this money working on the character, 5 dollars sound hella reasonable.

Hard, expensive work=/=low price. The least they should've charged for DLC characters is 7 bucks. But now, they went the 5 dollar range.

It's not about the price in a vacuum. Of course, on it's own, $5 isn't a step investment. But with DLC, as I've argued before, there's always a 'slippery slope' component. Whatever a company can pass off the first time, the next time out they'll push it a little further, then again a little further... I'd much rather see companies push DLC into very sensible and affordable areas, rather than playing 'match the industry'. That's a recipe for rising prices and less content.
In the case of MK, we're talking about something that has moved in massive volume as compare to the fighting category (excepting SF). BlazeBlue may be a crummy deal at $7 (serious nickle and dime'ing DLC is a standard in Japanese niche gaming...hello NAMCO), but it's install base is tiny. There is a bit of an argument to be made that niche DLC needs to gross more per purchase than a usual game to make the revenue total cover costs. MK has moved more than a million units in the US alone. If we low-ball that a 1/3 of the base would buy character DLC at $2.99, you're talking about basically a million dollars in revenue. After costs, you're probably seeing $400,000-$500,000 in profit out of that. That's more than skippy for a character development that was done with pre-existing (and paid for by the main game sales) tools and goes into an already done main game.

There's no reasonable 'down' pressure out there, the bar keeps shifting more and more to the developer/publisher side. I think with it's install base, the DLC could have been a buck or two cheaper and still grossed a sizable number. Along with setting a helpful industry marker.
Anyway.
1) Marketing 101, a lower price almost ALWAYS means higher profits. They could lower this to $3 and people would be more inclined to get it. See, most of you probably think that they have to sell less to break even if the price is higher,which is true, but in business, you aren't trying to break even, you are trying to make money. Lowering the cost means you open the possibility of others with a tighter budget to get in on the same action that they might have felt negatively about before. That being said...
2) These comments in this post are proof positive that if someone shit's on a plate and calls it gourmet long enough, people will eat it and love it. If this SAME fucking thing would have happened four years ago, every single one of you would have been bitching up a storm.
