Six Days in Fallujah not dead yet! photo

When Six Days in Fallujah was first announced as an FPS based upon the real-life Middle Eastern conflict, people jumped at the chance to take a sh*t all over it. Konami lost its nerve and dropped the title, while studio Atomic Games was declared "pretty much dead." Fortunately for Atomic, it's still alive, and apparently so is Six Days.

Studio president Peter Tamte confirmed the game still has a pulse while talking to the Marine Corps Times. Right now, Tamte is working with his other company, Destineer, on a "family friendly" first-person-shooter for Wii called Marines: Modern Urban Combat. Players control a four-man rifle squad sent to Beirut to foil the schemes of Syrian and Iranian government factions. Yeah, sounds like fun for all the family, doesn't it?

Going back to the game you actually give a crap about (somewhat), Tamte has said that Atomic "remains committed" to finishing Six Days in Fallujah, and that new partners are being sought. I wish them all the best, too. I think it's important games making bold steps get made. Even if they screw it up, we won't get better at these things unless we have a chance to make mistakes.

It's not "too soon", in fact it's overdue and a tribute to some brave soldiers.

The name Destineer doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

One of my teachers worked for Destineer...last I heard they develop web based games. Regardless, glad to hear Six Days wasn't killed by censorship. Video games get far too much crap for doing the same thing movies do on a daily basis.

I will take this as an announcement that Marines: Modern Urban Combat is actually a minigame collection. Shake the Wii Remote to keep from bleeding out after being too close to a car bomb!

Marines: Modern Urban Combat is a port of a 2005 PC/Xbox game.

@ Dexter345

And they think Six Days is offensive towards our armed forces. This Wii game already sounds like a mockery of modern war. You can't make war 'family friendly.' Nothing is friendly about war, ever.

Unless soldiers are fighting fluffy bunnies that bleed rainbows, of course.

I'm glad they're still working on this, hopefully they find a publisher.

Honestly, I have no desire to play this game because my weekly dose of Counter-Strike gives me all the warrin' I need, but I must agree that games like this are a good thing not only from the development standpoint, but also for helping ease our ability to talk about such things as a society.

awesome! a family game that spouts the marines modern (urban) combat, based on anyone against US propaganda, because the great american government is great and never wrong about wmd's to invade a country clear across the world, and its on the wii! fuckin win!

i'm more offended at that then any game that is based on real events. a movie could come out tomorrow and no problems whatsoever but a game? that just cannot be done or people all get their bloody periods on the same day.
