Sitting in a tree: Epic brings titles to Valve's Steam service photo

Valve continues to dominate (monopolize?) the PC digital download market, announcing today that Epic Games has signed on to provide content for Steam.

Epic has dumped a bunch of Unreal games onto the service, including the classic Unreal Gold, Unreal II: The Awakening, and all of the Unreal Tournament games, including Unreal Tournament III. All of Epic's titles are available as a bundle in the "Unreal Deal Pack," which is available for a ludicrously low price of $59.95. As per the tradition, the partnership is being celebrated by offering 10% off all of Epic's games for a limited time only.

The full press release -- complete with quotes from Valve and Epic where they make kissy-faces at each other -- can be found after the jump.

EPIC GAMES NOW ON STEAM

Award-Winning Library Available Via Leading Online Platform for PC Games

March 17, 2008 - Epic Games, Inc. and Valve, two of the PC industry's leading technology and content development studios, have inked an agreement to bring Epic's award-winning titles to Steam, a leading platform for PC games and digital content with over 15 million accounts around the world.

The Epic hits now available on Steam include Epic's debut classic, Unreal Gold, as well as Unreal II: The Awakening and the Unreal Tournament series of games, including the recently released Unreal Tournament 3, which has shipped over one million copies to date.

All of Epic's titles available on Steam are offered in the Unreal Deal Pack, an incredible value for just $59.95. And, to celebrate the launch, all of Epic's games on Steam are available for 10% off their regular price.

"Epic is a leading developer of game engine technology and has produced some of my favorite games of all time," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. "It's an honor to be working with them and offering their current and classic titles to the millions of Steam gamers around the world."

"Steam is a revolutionary technology that opens up an entirely new way to put our games into the hands of millions of PC gamers around the world," said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic. "Valve has changed the face of digital distribution for game developers, publishers and consumers, and we are thrilled to be a part of the Steam community."

Epic. I think everything on-line should go through Black Mesa, er, I mean Valve.

Is it just going to be the Epic Games catalog or will they go full boner out with Epic MEGA Games too?

P.S. Your image is missing a "to".

Nice. I thought "Surely iD software, Epic games, and Valve would never be under one service. They are direct competitors!"

I'm glad I'm wrong this time.

Sorry to double post, but I think this will definitely make UT3 PC a lot more popular. Hopefully by now a lot of the issues have been fixed and now that it's bundled with all the classic UT's, it'll be hard to say no.

That's so awesome. I'm in the same boat as King3vbo (it's a double hulled catamaran like in Waterworld) in that I have every UT game ever made... but still. Awesome.

Also, that pic STILL looks good to me. I could go right now and turn some Skaarj into gibs.

That's awesome, I'm definitely considering the Unreal Deal pack. But the article says in includes every UT game, but I do not see UT2003 in there.

Steam is the best chance for uniformity that the PC gaming market has, the more people using it the better.

@Drift64

I'm pretty sure that there's a contract that's binding Epic to keep Gears exclusive to the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows platforms. I don't think we'll be seeing it on Steam any time soon.

@moocow

It's because Unreal Tournament 2004 cancels out 2003 by default. That and 2004 is WAY better than UT 03.

This just made my week. And it's only Monday! Now all Steam needs is the classic Lucasarts catalog - then the Internet would officially explode.

Valve needs to be careful, if they keep adding to Steam at this rate it's going to become Skynet in no time.

This is kind of dissapointing, you can get most of these games for a dollar in any gutter discount store. Where's Epic Pinball or that top down space shooter I forget the name of but was completely awesome?

Didn't that big mouth valve guy say he wanted "every game ever" on steam?

This is totally fucking awesome. I love UT2k4 and have been looking for a cheap way to buy it. I almost want the Unreal Deal Pack, but I know I won't be able to run UT3 anytime soon. :/

I've been waiting for this. Can't wait to be able to afford it.

If it's available in Australia that is. Atari, Rockstar and THQ games aren't. Bastards.

Fuck yes. This slightly redeems Epic in my eyes- I still hope they get AIDS, but no longer wish for the immune system weakness caused by said AIDS to cause them to contract Ebola.

I see Steam as the possible saviour of PC gaming, publishers afraid of piracy can feel more comfortable with Steam's authorisation procedure, even though it can be cracked.
