Single-player BioShock 2 DLC 'Protector Trials' revealed photo

Uninterested in the first two downloadable content packs for BioShock 2 because you don't play multiplayer? 2K Games has announced today that it's bringing new single-player content to the game in the form of "Protector Trials." The pack will be available on August 3 for 400 MS Points for Xbox 360, or $4.99 for PlayStation 3.

On paper, it sounds a bit like a single-player "Horde Mode" -- as a Big Daddy, players will defend a Little Sister from swarms of Splicers. The pack will include six new maps, along with new unlockables like concept art and videos. If you're looking for a little more incentive, "Protector Trials" also features seven new Achievements/Trophies.

Not what you had in mind? 2K president Christoph Harmann says this is only the beginning, and that more single-player DLC is on the way that "will deliver more of the intense action and story-driven gameplay that fans have been craving."

@TheStripe:

I had thought the same thing. He may be talking about future DLC. This is clearly not story-driven.

Im a massive Bioshock fanboy or at least I thought I was but all this DLC crap is ridiculous. Why must they continue to try milking the cow. Its already dead.......

Protecting the little sisters was my least favorite parts of Bioshock 2. I don't think I really want more of it.

Wow. Protecting the sisters was the worst part of Bioshock 1-2. And now they are making even more of this? Are they stupid or something?

Eh, ill pass. I love Bioshock 2, but the DLC has been underwhelming to say the least.

I'm up for the challenge, but this seems kind of shitty.

In other words they learned that multi-player was a bad idea and that it's better to gouge than to make better sequels?

Why couldnt they do somthing cool? Like a few levels played as a splicer to see there side of the story. Just somthing, dont make horde mode and call it story driven, its insulting

Really? After nearly half a year that's the best you come up with, 2k?
At least it's not already on the disc and only costs 5 bucks.

*Sigh* 2K this not what singleplayer DLC should be.

I thought the same thing, but if you look closer you can see it's the drill... on some sort of super mutant drill steroids.

I'm gonna grab this actually. I enjoyed the gameplay throughout Bioshock 2 and, while it's not a story expansion, I'll have fun nailing a few achievements at the least.

I couldn't care less about Bioshock 2 anymore. I beat it, was completely unimpressed, especially when it's compared to the first one. The thought of DLC either single player or multiplayer is very unappealing.

Hmm...

As much as I liked BioShock 2, I don't think a Horde-esque mode really fits. Splicers are fun to kill and all, but the thing that makes Horde/Firefight/Survival/etc. fun is that the enemies are different every round, and I don't think there are enough different kinds of splicers to make this interesting for very long.

So they're making DLC out of the least popular part of the game? Smooth move.

Least popular part? The single player is fucking fantastic, sir.

The multiplayer is fine, but it's not fucking fantastic, that's for sure.

However, I was story content, not this.

Goddamn people are hard to please. They're supporting the game with DLC and promising more. Maybe it's not exactly what people want for DLC but at least it's something.

Didn't everyone hate protecting little sisters in the main game? It was like the hacking game of 1 - although I didn't have a problem with the hacking minigame in 1, proctecting little sisters got tired after the 20th time.

jesus christ 2k, let it go already. Continuously adding DLC for a dead community isn't helping anything. This game is turning into the digital version of Terry Schiavo

Destructoid: where gamers go to bitch and moan about dlc. I am glad to see bio2 get more dlc, and I will definitely pick this up. The promise of additional story missions via dlc is also making me hold on to my copy of bio2. Also, am I seriously the only one who enjoyed setting up a perimeter and then completely obliterating the splicers as they tried to grab the little sister?

Sorry, as much as I go apeshit for the Bioshock setting, going to have to pass on this. If it's a Horde mode, I think I've had enough of it in the core game: it was tight and tense the first time with limited ammunition, but once you get enough toys it just becomes really tedious.

For a "limited edition" secret city under the ocean that's undergone a massive, bloody, civil war, the idea of there being enough Splicers left for a Horde mode baffles me. ^_^
