Sims Stories: episodic standalones inbound photo

Episodic content isn't going away. No, it is instead leaking into all kinds of franchises and into the dirty minds of those that ruined the concept of "expansion pack" for everyone. I'm pointing the finger at you EA -- hastily flooding the market with ten barely discernable laddered Sims add-on packs which relied on each other to work properly. So what is a publisher with more money than God to do this year if it can't sustain more add-ons? Next-gen shines a light on the new strategy:

The new line of Sims games are “laptop-friendly” standalone deals that don’t require previous versions of The Sims. The first of three announced Sims Stories is The Sims Life Stories, which features story modes that follow characters through a non-linear “romantic comedy.” It’s slated to ship February 6.

LOL VIMM! (I just invented that, it stands for "vomiting in my mouth"). At least Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks aren't in it. If your loved one is a Sims fan and you fail at life when it comes to purchasing thoughtful gifts, this timely release might be a viable option. Two more episodes are slated to ship later this year --  The Sims Pet Stories slated for this summer and The Sims Castaway Stories for winter 2008. If none of these games tickle your recycled fancy, we encourage you to sign our top secret petition for The Sims: Tender Chainsaw Massacre Moments. A classic in the making, we assure you.

I'm holding out for "The Sims: 100% Recycled Content Stories" now playable on your trash compactor. Or was that IN your trash compactor?

Next up, EA to license game versions of "Lost In Translation: Tokyo Showdown", or "Steve Zissou: Ocean Explorer".

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
