Sims 3 info coming soon, and by soon we mean March 19 photo

Hey, guys ... guess what? Electronic Arts and Maxis are developing The Sims 3! Who would have thought that we'd see another installment to what has become one of the best selling computer games of all time? It boggles the mind.

EA and Maxis have officially launched TheSims3.com, and while the page contains no information on the game, it does do a pretty good job of teasing. They've plastered a giant image on the page, with the now iconic green diamond with a "3" next to it. Not content with the nebulous and non-commital "coming soon," it defines "soon" as March 19.

The Sims 3, as far as I have known (from intoxicated people who don't know when to shut up), has been in development since well before the release of The Sims 2. How it will differ from The Sims 2 (which, as far as I'm concerned, was a perfect evolution of the original) escapes me, but one can only hope that The Sims team and the Spore team were communicating openly during development.

Can you can imagine if The Sims 3 adopted the Spore "massively single-player metaverse" model? You can boot up your game to find my sim peeing in your toilet! The future is now!

Anyone remember Simsville?

I think The Sims 3 is just Simsville, reborn.

Because they're already working on Sims 4 . . .

Ever since that SimCity Societies debacle, something's rotten in the state of Maxis.

I was actually thinking about this a couple weeks ago. I would love to actually see more of this dynamic. I always felt "lonely" in the world of The Sims. I want to actually have a neighborhood, not just a singular plot of land with neighbors that wander aimlessly onto it. I would love to see The Sims Online Lite, less the subscription fee. The Spore idea sounds great. We already have Second Life, we don't need another. I just want a friend/ or random people on the other side of the intertubes to have the ability to move into my neighborhood right next to the npc's and interact with my sims.

They mentioned that they're working on The Sims 3 on one of the public chat Q&A's at when Sims 2 was released.

They also said that they see no reason to end the series ever..

Any word on if the Mac release will be the same, or will that be another year or so? My girlfriend's wet for this game. She's a Sims fanatic.

I'd dig it if it really is Simsville reborn. If it's the same old one plot at a time rehash, I'm not interested.

I bet my girlfriend will love this. More than Sims3 she's looking forward to Spore though... aren't we all?

I mainly used Sims 2 to live vicariously through the characters, so I will only buy Sims 3 if I can vicariously hang out with my several-states-away friend Lindsey's sims via the intarwebs.

I think Societies was not actually developed by Maxis.

The first sims game was one of the first games I played almost all night. I bought sims 2 with an expansion or 2 but then it lost its appeal, and I never played again. Be cool to see what this will be like but I'm not jonesing for this like others. But for those that are into this lets hope it will be something interesting and not just another re-hash.

Let's also hope it doesn't take them two god damn expansions to add restaurants back in.

If it comes to consoles I might check it out, otherwise I doubt I'll care.

Guilty admission: I used to play the Sims. A lot. And the Sims 2. But then gradually over time, I met actual people that I liked so replaced playing them with actual real social interactions. But hey, every now and then I'm tempted to reinstall them.

That's right. I fucking admitted it. And I like to play Pokemon, too.

They are already working on Sims 4.
I posted a video/blog about this last night.

I'm growing tired of the Sims but...i know i'll pre-order it anyway. EA sucked my soul.

Isn't Sims 2 already a system crasher? My friend has a pretty good PC and with all those damn expansion packs, he had trouble running it.

I just can't imagine the requirements for Sims 3.

The Sims is complete addiction to me. My husband always jokes about how he'll never see me again after each new expansion comes out. I absolutely love the Sims 2 and it's very hard for me to imagine how they're going to improve things from here, at least in major ways. They changed a lot when they made 2 so...I guess we shall see. I have my hopes up.

I'll stick to Sims 2, I'm sure this will have steep requirements to run it and I don't wanna waste money upgrading my PC.
