Oh shit, can we have a BioWare X-Men game!?
I sort of wish Bioware was handling this, as an X-Men game with the same mechanics as Mass Effect (but with more melee) would be ASTOUNDING. Hopefully Silicon Knights can bring something interesting to the table with this one.
I mean, from how it sounds, they're going to mine the Purifiers story arc and probably lean on the mid 2000's stuff. Which was pretty good, all things considered.
If this game is at least fun in any respect it will instantly be better than Too Human.
As for Too Human, I wouldn't mind if they finished the trilogy as long as they fixed the game. The swordplay was decent in the game, but the guns pretty much sucked. Getting blown away a million times by unavoidable missiles and watching the Valkyrie animation over and over (and over) again obviously got tiresome as well. Hopefully they can figure out how to make it work and finish the trilogy (or maybe 1 sequel to finish it would be enough).
I'm still waiting on my Eternal Darkness sequel as well...
Too Human did tank pretty hard. However, Silicon Knights received some pretty hefty tax credits from the Canadian Government. Apparently that was enough to keep them going long enough to sign a new deal.
On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone else find it hilarious when the first installment in a planned trilogy completely faceplants? Advent Rising anyone?
They should base this on Grant Morrison's New X-Men run. The Stepford Cuckoos would be a hoot in the game. Plus its my favorite X-Men run ever.
It's PLAYABLE. I've owned it. But c'mon guys, let's not pretend "hey I dunno what all the hate was about"
short game that made you grind the same 5(?) stages over and over, shitty gameplay, a story so bad that I beat the game before I even realized there was a context to the shit I was killing.
That is one of the selectable characters origins, Adrian Luca. Not all three.
The story to Too Human was incredible.
Read the Poetic Eddas (yeah I know, asking you to read may be a bit too much) and gather some culture. The story follows Norse mythology nearly to a T and is one of the things that made the game a masterpiece in my eyes.
It wasn't perfect but it certainly doesn't deserve the scorn it recieves whenever Silicone Knights are mentioned.
Could be interesting...though from the sound of it one of these possible characters could be Hope Summers (Mary Sue much?)...
"tough decisions that an average X-Man has to make.": That doesn't actually sound fun.. I mean I've been a fan for a while and frankly the X-Men make shitty choices -A LOT. And just how average of an X-Man? I mean.. Cyclops isn't exactly adverage considering hes a leader.. Neither was Nightcrawler given his activity and leadership at times.. Wolverine can't even be explained because it'd take too long and cover too many books..
"Set during a period where mutant hate is at its height, and when the X-Men have suffered a significant loss." So they're either making up a time period or they're going to reuse a time period... And if its the latter then thats just lame.. We've seen that crap before in other X games, I don't think I want to see that again.
"The player character is the child of a "human zealot" who campaigns against mutants as "nature's greatest mistake." ... Oh great! We've never seen this storyline before EVER!
"One of three characters to pick, all of whom are now part of official X-Men canon.".. My biggest problem of all.. I liked the idea of making your own mutant in the way you'd make Shepard in Mass Effect.. This completely ruins that thought.. I mean this is pretty much telling us "LOOK ITS X-MEN LEDGENDS AGAIN!!".. In that game we played as Magma, a character that was already in the ranks of the X-Men -at some point- as far as the books were concerned.. Choosing from 3 doesn't fix the lameness of not being able to really craft your own "Destiny" because we have to piggyback on a character already in the canon.
"The game features X-Genes, which allow you to build your character with the skills of other mutants.".. Yeah its an RPG, we get it.. This doesn't make it any cooler then it possibly could have been..
"Decision Moments" occur throughout the story, presumably Destiny's take on "moral" choices." Again means nothing to me now that I know we'll be piggybacking on an established character.
"Gambit, Magneto, Surge and Quicksilver are four of the famous faces who will pop up.".. oh wow.. really?.. /sigh.. This game is probably going to have oodles of faces besides these 4.. Gambit is good to see, as is Magneto I guess.. But I can care less about Quicksilver or the general newbie named Surge (Shes new by comic standards, a few years being in print don't mean shit).
I don't know.. I went from Interested in buying it on day 1 to waiting for it to drop in price/getting it used in a matter of 7 bulletpoints.. Way to go Silicon Knights!
Not the greatest comic fan (more of an manga kind of guy)but i prefer that to boring military/ generic medieval fantasy/ generic sci-fy setting all latest games seems to be in.
