A lot of people I know skipped the Wii version of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and went for the slightly cheaper PS2 port, assuming that the two games would look identical. Turns out that they don't. In fact, the PS2 version looks like it's missing a lot, to the point where I'm not even sure it's complete. As you can see in the above video, the first enemy in the game, the one that's supposed to send Harry tumbling down a road of madness and horror, doesn't even bother to show up in the PS2 game. Instead, Harry just stares at a big block of ice, then pretends to get scared.
Thanks for trying Harry, but it's not working. Pagophobia is so much less fun that skinless-freak-that-wants-to-hump-me-to-death-phobia.

I really can't imagine playing this one on anything other than the Wii--it just felt perfectly tailored to that control experience, and for the most part, felt fantastic to play.
Wow, I didn't think the PS2 would suffer that much cosmetically, but as long as the gameplay holds up I can overlook a few cutbacks. That first bit did admittedly bug me when the Raw Shock didn't show up, but the rest held up okay when it wasn't set in the Nightmare world.
I haven't noticed any of this problems in the PS2 version, probably because there isn't a Wii fanboy there making a big to-do about it. I mean, really, you're picking on a PS2 version here. Low self-esteem much, GoNintendo?
Weird flash monster showed up and scared me when he was supposed to when I started out.
My only complaint is that the 16:9 option is touted on the box, but nowhere in the game is there an option to flip it on or off. The psychiatrist scenes feel a little scruntched up on a SD TV.
I've got my Wii back temporarily, but I'm struggling to find a game that isn't a sports/fitness/music game with interesting use of the controls?!?
Any suggestions?
I got Dead Rising Chop Till you're bored and the controls are hideous.
I got House of the Dead Overkill and it's a pretty entertaining rail shooter....
...but i'm after something that uses the Wii controls (standard, got no motionplus) well, rather than just using the buttons with the odd bit of "waggle."
Are there any 3rd party games that actually use the controls well?? Or am i stuck with Zelda and WiiSports?
I have Tiger Woods 08 (i think, one of them from recent years) and the controls are fucking terrible, hateful in fact.
@sexualchocolate: No more heroes both of them are good games Dead space is a fun rail shooter for the wii a bit short but play it on the harder difficultly and you might get some fun out of it. Also mad world uses the control well to.
I definitely recommend both no more heroes and it's sequel.
I've also heard good things about mad world, I'm thinking about checking that out too........and of course the standards of nintendo like smash bros, zelda, mario, metroid, etc.....assuming you like nintendo 1st party titles.
"I mean, really, you're picking on a PS2 version here. Low self-esteem much, GoNintendo?"
GoNintendo didn't make the video, they're just reported on it like D'toid is here. How is this low self-esteem, when there's hundreds of comparisons videos out there of the 360 being better graphically than the PS3 version of a game? Its just showing the differences and unless you're blind, you can clearly see that the Wii has the better graphics by far. It just a better game on the Wii period!
@sexualchocolate: Muramasa uses no motion controls at all (there is not even an option) and it's gorgeous, Silent Hill is also pretty good.
As stated above, No More Heroes does some interesting things, not only with the motions (without overdoing it) but also with the wiimote form factor and the built-in speaker... the only downside is that the overworld is too sterile, with little to do besides the main missions, but I assume NMH2 has already adressed that.
I thought this was an excellent game, and an excellent Wii game. It really made use of the systems functionality to bring you a unique experience. If you have the option to play it on Wii I would definitely recommend it.
This should've been expected, as much as everyone liked to shit on the Wii it is a more powerful machine than last gen's stuff, and the Wii was the primary platform for this game. And really, people still buying new games on the PS2 should be happy with whatever they get. It's 2010 people, come on.
Actually, they should be happy they still have a working PS2 at all those things had near launch 360 failure rate numbers thanks to shitty disc drives. I personally went through three.
I just haven't see the big "problems" people are talking about, most reviews also have said its pretty much the same experience on all platforms. I can see how the Wiimote might add a little something, but its being a little exaggerated here.
Also, aren't the paths supposed to vary just a bit based on the profile you build?
Oh, the bridge part! when you´re running from a nightmare and then reality folds/unfolds itself again to "normality"... I was wow the first time I experienced that... I got dizzy for a few seconds too... this real time transition was much more impressive than what Double Helix tried to do with Homecoming... regarding the Wii/ps2 issue... it´s like comparing RE4 gamecube versus ps2 version... we all know what you get depending of your console, no surprise here...

I don't think anyone is 'picking' on the PS2. For the last 3 years, it seems as if any game that comes out on the PS2, also comes out on the Wii, and they look identical to the point that most people assume that any Wii game will match the PS2. Even though the Broadway and Hollywood chipset are suppose to be better, you don't really see it. Its just a surprise to see a Wii game look better than the PS2 game for a change.

They did fix the overworld issues in NMH2, but not in the way you'd expect: they totally removed the overworld. Now you simply choose locations from a map of Santa Destroy. I'm a bit torn about it: it really streamlines the experience and gets rid of a lot of the first game's annoyances, but I find myself wishing I could go out and explore. I imagine they figured the time and resources required to really make the overworld worthwhile would be better spent improving the rest of the game.
@ Sexualchocolate
Boom Blox, believe it or not, was a great time. The game bets it all on motion controls being fun; that gamble totally paid off.
Madworld was great while it lasted (it's pretty short; then again its $20 new). If the game had online leaderboards and/or a deeper system of optional challenges to complete after beating the main game, it would have been brilliant. Very smart use of motion controls.
NMH 1 and 2 are great fun if you're looking for games with a lot of personality (just don't expect AAA levels of polish). The games use motion controls well, which is to say they don't *overuse* them.
@m_earendil, @sexualchocolate: I used the motion controls in Muramasa, and I really liked them. It was a very different feeling stringing wrist flicks into combos in a beat em up, and the floating/flying feeling you get from the game is great. NMH also is one of the best feeling beat 'em ups I've played ever.
Also, it's really hard to compare two versions of a game when their not even in sync with each other. It starts out ok, but then they're never looking at the same thing at the same time.
They should have set up two TVs next to each other and tried to keep the gameplay as close as possible.
Zack & Wiki. The game features the most comprehensive use of motion controls than any third-party Wii game (and most first-party games sans WarioWare: Smooth Moves).
I just think it's sad that you have to compare a Wii game to a PS2 game graphically at all. I mean, I don't really care that much, but bragging about having better graphics than a ten year-old console seems kinda desperate to me. The Wii came out in 2006, it's supposed to have better graphics.
Well DUH. Of course the PS2 isn't as good graphics-wise. That's just common sense.
What bothers me, however, is the fact that the PS2 version looks even worse than the PSP version, which I've played through last week. I mean... seriously?
My mind is blown. And here I thought a console that came out in 2000 would have better graphics than a console that came out in 2006. It was a close one, though. A lot closer than it should have been.
A very useful and informative article about books indeed. It is great to have such a nice articles about the different books. I hope to see more articles in future

was this game made for the wii and ported to the ps2?, that would explain the dumbed down version.

i found it simplistic and repetitive
sure is slightly entertaining but compared to other hack n slashes it falls very short
the sequel looks great tough

Did you see it. There were coloured balls in the cabin on the Wii, that were mysteriously absent on the PS2.
...
Blame my girlfriend for that one.
We still don't have this game in the UK. I'm sad.
