The gods of streaming internet video were not cooperating when we ran our review of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories yesterday. But it's up now, both in the review, and right there above, for your convenience.
Those that saw our Ten Minute Taste of the game and wanted a bit more will surely find what they're looking for in our video review. I show a bit of exploration gameplay, puzzle solving, and cinema elements off, all while taking care not to spoil anything. Toward the end you'll see some of the non-combat some of you asked for, with me running for dear life. And yes, my flashlight is off. That's the way to go if you have a lot of 'em on your six.

This game does look interesting. Almost makes me wish I didn't sell my Wii. It could have been the first game to buy after like 2 years without a one. I guess the Wii just doesn't work for Mii. I'd probably buy a HD Wii that came with the motion+ if one were to come out. Till then though it's a PS3 world for me.
This would have been perfect if we were treated to Silent Hill: The Review: The Musical Starring Dale North and the Retroforce Go Fap chorus...on second thought, just Dale singing would work best.
Something about horror games has always made me avoid them. Possibly I have the fear tolerance of an 8 year old. Your review has really made me want to check this out though Dale. Hooray for no combat!
At first, I thought the game was just creepy but by the time the second monster encounter things felt scarier and more tense. I'm really liking the game.
Guys and gals, give the game a chance. It may be a completely different kind of Silent Hill game but it's a very good one on its own merits.Besides, you're not going to find a better survival horror game on the Wii with the exception of RE 4: Wii Edition.
The game does look good, but how does it stack up to the other silent hill games?
Part of the reason why SH2 was so good was the unsettling atmosphere and sense of menace lurking in the town itself, monsters or not. However, according to reviews that I have read for this game, there is no danger at all if you are in the "normal" world and that the danger only starts when you are in the "other" world and that defeating the (identical) enemies just consists of running really fast and memorizing where to go. Maybe boss fights are different.
Something about it just doesn't seem very "silent-hilly" to me. It could be a great game, but I'm a bit nervous. The number one highlight of silent hill games (at least for me) were the environments and the enemy design. The environment just seems to lack the same sort of menace because it's almost as if it holds up a big sign saying "Okay, NOW you can start to get scared", and at other times holds up a big sign saying "EVERYTHING'S ALL RIGHT NOW!". That seems jarring to me, and not in the spirit of silent hill. Telling the player when the enemies are coming is not nearly as oppressive and unsettling as having a permanently decaying town in which horror can approach at any time.
I've never been a fan of this series -- I always thought it was actually far inferior to stuff like Fatal Frame -- but I really want to give this game a shot. And I'm totally fine with no combat, seeing as how the combat systems in all the other Silent Hill games were extremely awkward.
