Silent Hill Origins confirmed for PS2 photo

Yes, I did say it, you already read it here on Destructoid, so allow me to clarify the difference: Previously we had speculation, and now thanks to Konami we have facts. Unfortunately, we don't have much fact beyond the actual confirmation -- no release dates, no extra goodies, no cheat code where you can play as Pyramid Head, etc. I'm afraid if you want to be excited, for now it'll just have to be over the game itself.

Some people didn't enjoy Origins very much (click that link only if you have a sense of humor,) but I had no real issues with it and enjoyed it very much for what it was. Sure, it's not Silent Hill 2, but frankly the day Konami outdoes that chapter of the series is the day I swear allegiance to the Republican party.

Considering the price tag of the PSP version, I wonder if the PS2 version will be the same or if it will be more. I would imagine it would make gamers angry if they had to pay more for the same game, but it certainly wouldn't be the first time any of us were raped by being fanboys (or girls, for that matter.)

SILENT HILL® ORIGINS IN DEVELOPMENT FOR PLAYSTATION®2 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

Survival Horror Title Makes Transition from Handheld to Console

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - January 22, 2008 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today confirmed speculation that Silent Hill® Origins, released last year for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system is in fact currently in development for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.  Now PlayStation 2 system owners will have the opportunity to experience this frightening and popular survival horror game, complete with signature sound and music from renowned Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.

"Console gamers can now expect the same chilling, suspenseful and fear-filled experience that handheld gamers encountered when we released Silent Hill Origins on the PSP system," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.  "This is their chance to learn more of the mystery and mythos surrounding Silent Hill that's been hinted at in earlier games and made the series such a success."

Players take on the role of Travis Grady, a lone truck driver making a routine delivery when he makes an unfortunate detour to the mysterious town of Silent Hill.  Players must help Travis escape the city's horrific inhabitants and unravel the mystery of the strange hallucinations from Travis' past, visions that have plagued him since childhood.

Updated controls maximize combat, allowing Travis to use his fists, his wits and an array of weapons including a meat cleaver, pool cue and sledgehammer to fight his way through the nightmarish world of Silent Hill and face multiple endings based on his actions.

That picture is fantastic, not so sure about the game. I might give it a go if it does make it onto the PS2 and over to Europe.

The sad thing is this is the umpteenth major PSP exclusive to go to the PS2. First there was Liberty City Stories, which was ironically supposed to push the PSP to the PS2's stratospheric heights, then Vice City Stories, Twisted Metal Head On, Ratchet Size Matters, and now this.

And some thought it stung when the GC lost RE4 as an exclusive. Yet at least by then, the system was nearing the end of its cycle.

Let me tell you the story of why this is good for me:

I am quite infatuated -- dare I say, in love -- with a girl that I only get to see on a semi-weekly basis. We're only just starting to get to know each other, and apparently she's a big Silent Hill fan. She's been contemplating buying a PSP for Origins alone, though reluctantly. Now, however, I can be the one to happily inform her that her beloved series will return to the PS2 and she need not buy a PSP. After this, there will be many kisses and wedding plans will be made.

Thank you, Colette. I will name our first child after you. And thank you, everyone else, for not reading this.

I've never felt like this before, you touched me today and it was a GOOD touch.

I waint this and will pick it up on PS2 100% as i was iffy about it for PSP. Still have to beat The Room though...hrm

If that pony was a mount in World of Warcraft, I would sell everything I owned to pay for subscription fees and ride it around Azeroth until I starve to death.

@Colette
And if I may further endear her to you, I looked over at her during church a few weeks ago (we're both part of the A/V team) and saw that she was drawing incredibly accurate bob-ombs on a roll of masking tape. She also apparently designed a onesie covered in old school Mario/NES stuff. I've been trying to squeeze some pictures of it out of her.

Bottom line, those girls do not exist in South Jersey. If this doesn't work out, then I'm going to have move.

So...dammit, even less of a reason for me to use my new PSP. (I always prefer stuff on a big screen.

I think this game will work a lot better on the PS3. To me Silent Hill isn't a good portable game seeing as the horror aspect of it comes from being sucked into the world of SH. It's an experience I don't think you can get on a hand held
