Silent Hill movie sequel is officially official photo

As far as videogame movies go, Silent Hill wasn't really that bad. In fact, for the thirst forty-five minutes, it was actually pretty fun, and if you allowed yourself to ignore the niggling issues only a purist fanboy could have and pretended that the "scary little girl" cliché wasn't being used, it was a decent enough flick.

Naturally, that cannot be accepted, so Hollywood is having another crack of the whip in an effort to make sure we get a truly despicable Silent Hill movie. That's right, Silent Hill 2 has officially been given the green light.

The news comes with word that screenwriter Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida have signed on to make the film. If all goes to plan, the movie will be shot next year by Davis Films once Resident Evil: Afterlife has successfully ruined everybody's lives. Davis Films is also working on the Return to Castle Wolfenstein movie.

This will doubtless be based on the Silent Hill 2 videogame, possibly with a returning Sean Bean looking for his wife. Silent Hill 2 is among my favorite games of all time, so I fear that my purist fanboy rage may not be contained for a second outing. We shall see. I am really not very hopeful that lightning can strike twice and we'll get yet another bearable videogame movie.

I liked the first movie a bit if only because I never got into the games. Hopefully the second one will be better, though. Also, you can't beat Pyramid Head ripping someone's skin off. That was pretty rad.

The 1st one was not a bad movie at all so hopefully they keep this one in the not to shabby range as well as I do not expect a miracle.

No, the movie was awful. I don't get why gamers have this mentality to just accept things that are halfway decent for the first 40 minutes. It should be decent ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

It was two hours of local community theatre actors shouting 'OOOOOOOOOH! BURN THE WITCH! BURRRRRRN! OOOOOoooOOOOoooooh! WE ARE ANGUSIHED! BUUUUURRRRN THE WITCH!'

No Christopher Gans, no go. Say want about some of the poorer choices made in the first film, it was indeed extremely watchable. A lot of that had to do with Gans' direction, as well as his genuine love for the source material. Having someone do fill-in will probably lose a lot of what made the original passable.

Consider the other end of the spectrum; Paul W.S. Anderson, a self-proclaimed video game fan, made a Resident Evil movie that was barely watchable. The sequel was not directed by him, and it was somewhow worse.

The visual effects in the first exceeded my expectations by far. Acting was spotty for some characters and I do wish they hadn't used the original music in a couple of scenes.

Wish they hadn't spent so much time faffing about during the first two acts only to rush the third. Either way, much better than most of the half-assed video game movies out there.

Silent Hill either had a huge population of extremely hot nurses, or was hosting a "Hello Nurse!" cosplay competition the day that things went straight to hell.

Can't wait. I liked the first one alot. I just hope they do get a director who will respect the games like Christopher Gans did.

That does remind me though: Gans did say he actually cut out a lot and wanted to release a director's version. What happened to that?!

The original movie was fantastic to look at but ranks well within the limits of what we have come to expect from videogame based movies. That is to say, I will never get those 2 hours back and that makes me sad. I hearby humbly ask all people out there to quite apologizing for the original film and accept it for what it is (read: REALLY bad).

It was awful.

I do not look forward to the sequel.

My heart looks up at me with puppy dog eyes as if to say "please don't beat me" at the very thought of there being a follow-up to Silent Hill.

The world will morn this day.

Truly.

i liked the first one, it had actually stayed very close to the source material, unlike the RE movies.

So is this movie going to be a bunch of people standing around whining about how much their lives suck, just like in Silent Hill 2? Or are we going to get some Heather kicking ass with a lead pipe? Please be the latter, pleasepleaseplease.

Damn it. SH2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The reason I adore it so is because of the deep level of psychological symbolism in the game, which made it mindblowingly cool for me. Of course, I have no doubt that Hollywood will fuck that all up and just be like "LOOK GUIZE WATCH PYRAMID HEAD KILL SOME SHIT".

@Jin Champloo: But SH2 doesn't make sense as a direct movie follow-up to the original movie. SH3 takes place in the same timeline and uses many of the same characters, so it would be a better game to make the movie sequel from.

I don't care what anyone says, video game movies CAN be good, they just need someone -- a writer, a studio, a director -- to put their heart/money into making a decent one. Once the comic book craze dies out, VGs are going to be the next inevitable property.

No. No. Just please, no.

The first movie was an absolute turd. My poor heart couldn't take Silent Hill 2 (the game) being raped by Hollywood.

Hmm..i remember somewhere that "The first Half" of the orginal was acuatlly done by another director and half way through they switched for some reason. If they can capture the creepy depth of the deaths/devil mythology and the hopelessness and sadness that you bear add The isolation and The Fear of what is the darkness, And The Transformation of it all coming to life in front of your eyes all while your one hope is no-where and its only your heart that is literally carrying you too it all...then i'll consider this close to what is silent hill movie.

The first movie looked fine. It had a skin-ripping scene. A skin-ripping scene. That is a wonderful thing. So bitch and moan about the plot and all that but it looked just fine and that's kinda all I wanted in that movie.

Oh, and Hollywood is a business. Stop getting your hopes up that they will give you what you want and you will never be disappointed.

I agree the first wasn't bad, that scene is what makes it silent hill, that whole "He how cast the first stone" stuff and sure Hollywood is a business but if they can appeal to people to what is "Silent Hill" to the general audience and make it good(Cause the orginal "Silent Hill 1/2 were Great)it can reach a greater audience and more money. So the better it is, the more money it can make.

The first movie was Ok for me, a lot of reference, Akira Yamaoka support and ... it was fine... just fine...

but this? C'mon if you're going to do a movie of my favorite silent hill of all time, at least use the original characters!

I liked the first one quite alot and I am a huge Silent Hill fan. Hopefully they get the underlying theme more correct this time around, but as far as game-to-movie conversions, this is definitely one of the best.

I actually liked the Silent Hill film. Sure, the final act was a bit crappy, but it's probably my favourite video game film (apart from Street Fighter '94, of course).

As for the sequel, if they get Sean Bean on board, I'll be happy. It has been proven that every film ever is better with the addition of Sean Bean.
