*sigh*
On a positive note, I actually really like the new SH2 voicework. So there's that?

Like, The walls in the Baldwin Mansion seemed to flicker at one point and pretty much give away that there was a monster around the corner waiting for me.. Which freaked me out more then actually having the monster just waddle around the corner at me.
I also noticed that when you don't have a map for an area and it tells you "There is no map for this area" that when it goes to the town map as a default the game -again- flickers while heading to that map, but I can't remember if this was something that happened in the original or not. Something tells me I'd remember it though, or at least the seizures its bound to have given me.
I can also confirm that Maria, only at one point in talking to Baldwin, sounded like she was talking through a tin can telephone, but I figured that was just the parlance of that time showing up again.
I will say I like the graphics but -even for a game I've known for over a decade to be the darkest around- I found it too dark, even when I pumped the in-game brightness all the way up.. Its the first time since owning a console this generation where I had to mess with the brightness on my TV to simply find a door in a game.
Either way, I personally find the atmosphere intact, its just that the game just isn't as scary or suspenseful any more simply because its dated visually and mechanically. Its still wonderful (while making me wonder "how did I ever play this back then?") but its definitely showing its age.
Again - Konami, just fucking rerelease the games on Steam. At least 2 and 3. Pc versions were fucking amazing and not buggy. And still work fine. There are some problems with The room, though. And some cutscenes in The Room were pre-rendered in a very low-def way it was impossible to understand what was going on on them.
But SH2 and SH3 on PC are amazing. You just take them, put them on Steam, get money. simple as fucking that.
Not that its an excuse, cause I'd rather not excuse something that should have never happened at all, but I'm pretty sure the answer to those delays was the whole voice track controversy.
Pretty sure that entire back and forth made them double and triple guess a few things.
I can only hope its them doing ZOE HD.
But I'm going to stay optimistic. I always get at least a little encouraged when there's an early patch. It means there's a small chance they won't just abandon these issues.
But come on, I don't understand how anyone could George Lucas it like this. SH2 is a perfect game, the best of that generation. You don't spend your redevelopment time fucking with who shot first in the cutscenes, you spend it making sure the fucker runs right and looks clean on the new technology. Jesus Christ.
All I can say is don't go to the PC versions instead. As buggy as you may think this experience is, the PC versions are much, much worse. They exist only for taking screenshots.
It's been a rocky start to this year. Mass Effect 3 on PS3 was also mad buggy to start with; it had early patches that didn't fix the hard freezing in multiplayer, but eventually the freezes stopped (which suggests they were server-side)
The next issue that I haven't seen mentioned yet (and this could actually just be caused by my foggy memory) is the SH3 'book store puzzle' wherein random numbers are scrawled into the spines of books, so that when put in order, you can read the numbers properly. Well, in my game, the 'graphics layer' where the numbers appear...just ISN'T THERE - making the FIRST puzzle in the game UNPASSABLE. Lovely.
I suppose the largest problem that this inferior port brings up is that, for a lot of younger people just growing on this generation of consoles, this will be their first experience with the original Silent Hill series. And their experience is that survival horror games were total shite and there's no reason to invest in them anymore. Not a good artistic or marketing strategy there, Konami.
i think they should have given it to Bluepoint Games.
i mean the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is amazing(despite some of the missing features like Boss Mode, Secret Theater etc)
such a shame the game is being riddled with bugs. they can't even port a game right.
though will be buying this sometime this year for sure :P
I was (at least one of) the original people to point out the first two seconds of Pyramid Head's opening scene were left out. It has since come to my attention that this is in the PS3 version only, therefore it is very likely it's merely a graphical glitch/loading problem, NOT an intentional censorship. While it's still a problem these two seconds are missing, it doesn't appear to be anything malicious on Konami's part.
I'm actually a little flabbergasted at how this news was taken, since I merely told people my version was cut short and immediately I see posts on Twitter/news sites that the scene had been "cut." We're talking about two seconds here people. Focus on the real issues: lag and audio bugs.
I was looking forward to this. Always wanted to try Silent Hill. This just makes me sad. No buy until a fix and apology.

Kinda glad I didn't pick it up.
Hijinks Games.. Or at least theres a Hijinks Games splash screen for one reason or another when the game starts.
@Dibidoolandas
Hate to sound rude, but who cares if you were amongst the first people to find a glitch? This isn't an undiscovered continent, theres no real point in claiming a glitch. Just say that you've found out that it might be just the PS3 and leave it at that.
As for the rest of what you said, I'd have to get to that part of the game on my 360 version to be able to tell if the problem happens there -the problems with the game seem too spotty at the moment to even say everyone will have the same issues or there was some sort of snuck in censorship.
Also, you do know if you were talking to gamers about something that maybe cut from the game without their knowledge, that implies any form of censorship, that they'll run to the moon and back with it before they'll ever see reason, right? Have we not had it proven in spades this month that gamers need very little reason to fly off the handle for the stupidest reasons?
I'm not sure if you understood what I was trying to say. The only reason I pointed out that I was one of the people initially claiming this was censorship is that I feel largely responsible for people across the internet claiming the game was "censored." I have seen articles on gaming sites linking to the video that I uploaded as evidence that a scene was cut from the game, which is largely blowing the problem out of proportion.
And in my defense, I was not being crass with my claims. My initial post on GameFAQs was posed as a question. I asked people if they had noticed it or if I was alone/mistaken, and many other people confirmed that they were missing the first two seconds also. Even after that, I started a new game and got to the apartments so I could take video myself. So I was not being irresponsible here, just pointing out something I'd seen.
Also, from what I've seen in playthroughs online, the 360 version has been spared this issue.
