Whatever. Konami has shown no respect for this series in years. Silent Hill died years ago, its name only lives on because of its recognition. Same could be said for many series that existed before the great mainstream influx.
going from horribly amazing atmospheres to laughable voices is no good
The voice acting doesn't bother me as much as the sound design. Everyone has an "on mic" sound to their voice, no reverb, no space. It's like they're talking directly into your ear, but they are 5 feet from the camera."
*stepping out of character for a moment*
This was the first thing I noticed, hopefully it will be fixed in the game and this was just an early version before they could add more dimension to the audio.
*back in character*
but the PS3 version of this will be perfect and the 360 version will be craptacular. 360 is poop!
A lot of voice acting sounds like shit before you put in all the background/atmosphere sounds
Are u kidding me? That commercial was the best part of the whole damn video.
@Chad
That's what it is. James and many of the other characters sounded so unbelievably pathetic and sad. You don't see that a lot in games, and now we have these "professionals" that do a technical good job but fail to touch on anything resembling weakness here.
As far as the others go: congrats Konami, you've replaced duff voice acting with duff voice acting. Money well spent. Money that could've gone to porting the Silent Hill or Silent Hill 4 to the collection.
Speaking of which, does 2 games = "Collection"?
Anyone who says they thought the original was great, and yes, I'm addressing all of you, has a serious case of nostalgia goggles. It. Was. Absolute. Tosh. It was never good. It's never going to be good. And frankly, it's not what the game was about anyway. Hell, consider the amount of spoken lines/scenes there are in the game. It's a rather small percentage, and every time I watched those cutscenes, I grinned and cringed over how bad they are. I'd likely be doing the same for the HD version would it be my first time playing at all.
It's not "defending the lowest common denominator". It's calling people out on realizing that they're becoming just like those crotchety old folks who sit on porches and whistle through their false teeth about how the old days were better. To quote Yahtzee, nostalgia is a mouthful of balls.
I get the impression that a lot of people were going to hate the voice work no matter what.
It doesn't fit the characters.
"I'm not your mary."
Where did Maria's subtle arrogance go?
I can't wait until the "new soundtrack by Daniel Licht" announcement, then we can really see this mess implode.

MY ONLY gripe is with Mary's voice. Every other voice is about the same.
It certainly LOOKS good, but it sounds.. well pretty much like vomit.

Like the voice actor himself is not bad... But that's not James...
James Sunderland is supposed to sound weak and pathetic, this voice sounds like he's one bench press away from roid rage.
You can't polish a turd.
I know it's generally accepted that SH2 had a less than stellar voice acting, but I absolutely loved Mary/Maria's voice; it was so full of emotion and it made me cry when she reads the letter in the ending. This one here has as much emotion as a stump, especially in the "(...) I'm real" sentence (which is iconic of the game, it's even in the freaking soundtrack).
I think I'll stick with the original, it's still quite playable and in my opinion aged well.
Obviously I lack context on the scenes and the characters, but most of you are sitting there with nostalgia goggles on and it's a little sad and bit creepy.
Why sad and creepy? Well, sad and creepy both because I've at times been this much of a whiny little bitch about these kinds of things in the past. It's like I'm looking into a mirror and wow do I need to fucking grow up.
Reality check here SH fanatics: The old voices were never that good and you've simply built them up on lies.
When I heard it was for Xbox360 too: HAPPY
When I just heard it: SAD
Ultimately, though, this isn't a big deal either way. I enjoyed the original despite James' horrible voice, so I have little doubt I would enjoy this version as well. The things some gamers shed tears of outrage over are hilarious.
