Then again, like with Final Fantasy, you can only expect me to buy crappy games before I write off a series and Silent Hill did that years ago for me.
Love how they are pulling a Lucas and trying to recon the GOOD Silent Hills into shite.

I don`t get why actors/musicians get residuals. If an engineer builds a car, he gets paid once, no matter if they reuse his engine in the next one. If I configure a webserver, and some dude comes and clones all my config files, I still just got paid just that one time... You know, stuff like that
As long as the new voice is good, then I don't care. Maybe Konami thought they could do better? I don't know, and I'm certainly not going to form an opinion about that unless I get Konami's side of the story.
Anyway, I donīt know why veteran gamers would buy this collection, where 2 and 3 are incredibly cheap on PC and any PC can run them in almost HD with max settings
I do not understand why you feel that way, and I'm a huge fan of SH2. I don't see how it's crazy at all. I assume they want to improve the audio quality, and instead of going with actors who are ten years older than when they first recorded the lines, it seems like the best idea is to get the best voice actors they can. There certainly is a bigger and better pool of those than in the early days of gaming.
If the voice acting is good, then I'll be happy, if it's awful, then I'll be sad. I'm definitely not going to get bent out of shape simply because it's different.
Then why not just have the same voice actor reprise his role then?
Sorry, but u don't sound like much of a die-hard sh2 fan to me...
Remember MGS: Twin Snakes? They kept the same voice cast (mostly) but rerecorded every line of dialogue, directing most of the voice actors to drop their accents (Naomi, Mei Ling and Nastasha come to mind). The voice acting was much more memorable in MGS1 than SH2/3, and despite the fact that the rerecorded dialogue was arguably worse, it didn't make Twin Snakes any less enjoyable. I think this will be fine.
I just wonder if this means they're retranslating the game, too.
However if it goes bad...if Leslie Nielson was still alive, I would have paid him infinite amounts of cash to do the voice of pyramid head.
Anyway, the most important question of course, which all the fans I'm sure are asking themselves, is this:
Who is doing the new voice of the dog in SH2?
Silent Hill was a franchise that achieved gaming brilliance with their flaws on display, not in spite of them. Trying to "fix" these flaws is no different than trying to fix works of art in a museum using modern techniques.
Konami has shown a massive lack of respect for this franchise in recent times, and the modern "who cares as long as it looks, plays, and sounds better than the original" show that same lack of respect for the games that got our industry to the levels it is at now. You don't "fix" what isn't broken, especially when what isn't broken is considered a masterpiece.
And if this is what's happening, of course the old actor is going to be upset about losing his paycheck. Not saying anything is for certain here, but you can't damn either parties when we don't know the true motivation behind this decision. As someone said, there's a good chance hiring new actors for a much more established series is going to cost more money than keeping the old performances.
a similar example was Twin Snakes, which redid the entire game's voice acting, using most of the same actors, but the second time they all phoned it in.
Konami, just pay the fucking guy, you'll lose more in sales than it'll cost you to just pay him, if you release an inferior product.
Not that I disagree with you at all, but haven't they already altered said masterpiece by updating it to HD?
I hated Douglas' voice from SH3, though.
No more than a remastered version of Sgt. Pepper's or Blade Runner alters the works of The Beatles and Ridley Scott. Some people prefer the pops and pings of a record, while some prefer the clean sounds of a CD, but the artist's work remains unchanged.
An HD update doesn't change much of anything besides allowing you to experience the games on a modern TV without it looking like ass. Now, if they decided to remove the fog that was only originally present because of the lack of processing power meant draw distances were crap, or recast the voice actors because they can now afford better? Well that doesn't just change how the game can be experienced should you so choose, but the experience itself on a basic level.
I wan't a new generation of gamer to experience this game, if the brand recognition itself would bring in players that would never have played that kind of game, and show them that they can actually go out and buy fun games that arent Call of Duty or God of War. But I wan't them to experience the game for what it was/is, not for what Konami thinks they will like.
Go listen to some Silent Hill 2 scenes on youtube. It's not perfect, but it is more or less unique having a soft voice like Cihi's on a main character. And keep in mind that it's his mo-cap and partial likeness, so there's synergy there that will be broken if they put Nolan North or some other voice actor more suited to comic delivery on it.
I can take or leave all the others, though I'm sure some people would feel the same way about Maria's voice actor.
It's just a shame that Konami don't seem to know they made a perfect game already, and all it needs is a fresh coat of paint. Too much tampering with what made the original strong ruins many of these game remakes.
If by "die-hard" you mean complaining about any change, positive or otherwise, then no, I'm not. The voice acting was not why I enjoyed Silent Hill 2.
I'm simply not going to go into a rage about a change that I likely won't notice once I start playing. I'm not going to lapse into a melodramatic swoon and proclaim that my memories have been shattered (ha). It just isn't likely to be a big deal except to the people who WANT it to be a big deal. Because, you know, SONIC HAS GREEN EYES WTF!2
But, really, gamers are a melodramatic lot. I'm not surprised.
Cool. Just curious to see where you personally draw the line on the issue. :D
Though on a side note not meant to continue any debate - I have to say that I rather disliked the remastered (i.e. stereo instead of mono) Beatles CDs and have seen a fair number of remastered DVDs and Blurays that have left the original work a visually garbled mess.

"And no in not gonna jump to his defense by just taking his side of it"
You are a very wise man/woman/cat.
I am not liking Silent Hill anymore. It pains be, but I moved on. Why is this series even around anymore? Money, sure - banking off fans who eagerly await to see if the next title is anything like the ones that Konami is currently giving the shaft on.
Still, why look forward to the next Silent Hill game at all? The series is never going back to its "roots". That's fine. We still have the original games (even this pointless "HD collections" if you prefer). So, why move forward with this franchise when it is way beyond past its prime?
LET IT DIE.
