I love the direction of the new game. I think its time we had a big change in the sh series. The old formula hasnt been working with these shoddy developers, and I think we need a break until a legitimate developer decides to revive the series.
Because we need more top down co-op zombie/alien/pyramid head shooters. Looks like a terrible cash grab hoping people will drop money on a franchise name without doing their due diligence in researching the product.
Ick, could be a fun, even great game but I don't know why it has to use the SH name.

I think it's a little obnoxious of Hulett to tell fans that they "needn't worry". Oh, yeah, you're just changing the entire gameplay experience into something NOT survival-horror...but we should all take your word for it that "it's cool".
I don't understand how these people can do shit like this on camera with a straight face. I mean whenever this happens, not just here. How can they act like "fans needn't worry" and SHOULDN'T worry when the game in question is being so bastardized and watered-down that it's not even worthy of the franchise title anymore? How do they think anyone will be able to take them seriously after that? Do they just not care what fans will think of them as people? Do they believe we're stupid enough to believe them? Are THEY really so stupid as to believe the shit they're shoveling? Every possibility I can imagine is an epic fail.
They need to combine this with that new top down Burnout game and make a new drunk driving survival horror subgenre.
@ismegamanthere - Past failures is not an excuse to fail again - just in a different way - until someone else comes along to "do it right" again. If they want to make a top-down diablo clone, then just make a top-down diablo clone. Slapping "Silent Hill" onto the box is just a blatant and insulting attempt at a cash grab, by manufacturing demand based on past releases (aka - bait and switch).
I don't mind a change, but what drew in many of the fans was the psychological horror, since there was so much to decipher in the series. To completely remove the foundation for which many of the fans have built their love of this franchise on feels like a slap in the face and makes me wonder who this game is marketed towards. Couldn't this just as easily not of had the Silent Hill name?
You know, I would play the shit out of a Silent Hill kart racing game, just like I did with the Final Fantasy kart racer (Bahamut didn't have a kart, he just flew. Gangster).

I think it's safe to say that the Silent Hill franchise is dead and now they're just violating the corpse.
Now, you can do psychological scary and top down and it still be creepy as fuck. I mean, it's Japan; They can do fucking anything, and probably have.

Apparently, Konami put a few SH characters into their iPhone kart racer. I remember when Pyramid Head was cool.
This game seems to be more reminiscent of the comics, which were a random bunch. It doesn't look like my cup of tea, tbh. :\

Y'know, I came in here all set to rage, but after Silent Hill: Arcade, I really can't say I'm surprised by this concept. Could it be good? Yeah, I suppose. Will it make my previous experiences with Silent Hill cheaper by comparison? Of course not, I'll always have those.
That said, all but confirming that you no longer care about the theme of the series, and indeed the way it's viewed by the public, will always leave me with a poor taste. It shows of executive meddling, design by committee, and cashing in on a name.

And may I note that I find a rather large disconnect regarding... professionalism?... between certain editors on this site. One hears new voice acting he doesn't like in a remake for a popular series and throws a complete shit-fit. The other learns of a new game in the same series that throws the whole concept out the window and states why he's concerned.

It could be fun, but hell its pathetic that they use Silent Hill name as a selling point, which is a trend this days,creating offbeat sequels that don't have anything in common with the franchise, only a name that is used to bait fan base and add some "depth" in the game.
Meh, the only Silent Hill game I remember owning was Silent Hill 1. Was too scared to play that game and watching my mom play it wasn't even that possible. Albeit, I was very young maybe about 7 or 8, but it interested me.
I personally would give this game a chance, but at a lower price point of say $20 and if the Silent Hill feel was still there.

I really hate how people are so fucking obsessed with this series that any little spin offs is suddenly a crime against humanity. It's a fucking video game. Chill out. If you like the past games, then enjoy them. Stop letting future titles ruin the memories you have of the past ones.

@AllenR: Like I said, if it turns out to be Renegade Ops: Silent Hill, then I'm all for buying 10 copies.
But if they're all "It's still going to be scary, but we're not going to focus of scary," then I'm a little worried for the game itself.

DmC isn't exactly in the same circumstances. The gameplay is still being developed by the same members of Capcom that made previous DMCs. SH has been tossed over to a completely different developer and from the looks of things now, is changing it's very genre of gameplay.

Survival horror needs to go back to having both Survival and horror in it. Co-op or Mulitplayer is nice when it comes to games like Left 4 Dead but frankly its getting less and less frightening, and frankly completely washed out, to come at horror with a group of people that's all expected to live at the end.
This is why horror movies kill people off every 10-15mins (or less), it creates suspense no matter how many times we say "saw that coming".
