Silent Hill 5 developers merge with secondary company to become Double Helix photo

While you may know of The Collective if you are a major Silent Hill fan (as they are developing Silent Hill 5,) you may not know of Shiny, the developers who worked on The Golden Compass's multiplatform release. Of course, it no longer matters which you know or don't, since it was announced last October that the two developers would merge into one. Foundation 9 (parent of both companies) has now named the new organization, which will go under the name Double Helix.

What's the industry word? Here's a snippet:

The publisher says the new merged studio "has combined the existing studios' proprietary technologies, production best practices and talented teams into a single entity that is now able to build upon its previous experience to gain new heights in quality and efficiency."

Hmmmm. That sounds good, of course, because it's a polished phrase meant to be read by others. What I wonder is if this has any effect on the games in development. Yes, if you know my tastes you can see through me like a sheet of plastic -- I'm worried about the welfare of Silent Hill 5. Likely it will be unaffected, but the title has already earned skepticism from fans of the series due to being in the hands of a new developer. As long as I get to bludgeon undead things in the end, I'll be happy.

As long as SH5 isn't dumbed down, or filled with Pizza Hut ads; we coo.

There's no way they're going to live up to everyone's expectations. It's just not possible.

I'm having my doubts about the game, but I still think it will make me poop my pants here and there.

I agree with Chief. Silent Hill 4 blew.

But there is always hope.

Shiny are the guys who did Earthworm Jim and MDK. I haven't played (or really heard) anything from them since then, so who knows. New Silent Hill enemy with a slug-for-a-butt?

Wait, Shiny, like Earthworm Jim Shiny? Or is this some new company named Shiny?

Well, according to Wikipedia. It's the same Shiny.

What the fuck? "The Golden Compass" is the example to try and remind people of Shiny? @_@ What about Earthworm Jim and Wild 9 and MDK and those Matrix games? According to wiki, it's the same Shiny.

Their older stuff was definitely better than their newer stuff, but I guess I'll choose to view this as a change for the better.

Golden Compass was the most recent title they worked on, which is why that is the title cited.

Shiny sucks now, cause David Perry left. hes the one who created EJ. ah the glory days of gaming when Acclaim were 'masters of the game' and the snes had no blood code lol

Hopefully it can't hurt, but I don't have much faith SH5 will live up to my or most fans expectations.
This is especially reinforced by how they handled Origins. Recreating the basic SH elements with an OK, but not great story and then slapping some bandly thought-out ideas on the end. Like breakable weapons. Sure it's ok to some degree, but it takes more than a few swings to break a steel pipe.

I actually think Pizza Hut ads would mean it's going to be awesome. Look how many Pizza Hut boxes they had in the anime Code Geass, and how cool that series was. Pizza Hut clearly is a sign of greatness.

My only memory of Pizza Hut ad placement was the falling signs in the coin-op TMNT game.

Only bad memories and trauma there.

Ugh, this has the heavy stench of fail on it. Shiny haven't really been relevant since sacrifice back in ought, and the collective were responsible for marc ecko's getting up and similar tripe. Screw silent hill 5, the new alone in the dark looks like it'll piss all over it.
