Shrink says Jack Thompson is sane? That's crazy! photo

Jim told us last month that famed attorney and anti-violence crusader Jack Thompson was ordered to undergo psychological testing, but now it looks like video gaming's very own "Whacko Jack-o" isn't so whacked after all -- or at least that's what his paid psychologist says.

The overall impression is that of a socially committed, and religiously devout man, of Superior Intellectual Functioning, who does not suffer from any major mental illness or impairment. He is deeply committed to personal betterment and social progress which he feels involves the regulation of exposure of minors to pornography, obscenity and violence.

In fact, his psych (which he pre-emptively saw at his own expense) only really calls him on his "hyperbole and sarcasm" in some of his motions and pleadings, which Thompson promises to moderate in the future.

So, what's the deal? Is Jack just nuts enough to clear a shrink's evaluation, or are his public ramblings just an act for attention? If he's able to "play it cool" to pass a psych evaluation, this may show that his courtroom craziness is indeed an act.

Indeed. JT is just abusing the system. Why would he be so opposed before, then get his own evaluation rather than waiting for an appointed shrink?

I just saw a documentary on the beginings of HIP HOP. I didn't realize that it was ol' Wacko Jacko that got 2 Live Crew banned in Florida.

He is always trying to ruin everything I love.

Fuck him

I was totally gonna use that image of jack on my Dtoid blog banner yesterday but i didn't fancy trying to cut it out of the image. Well, that and having to stare at his face for more than 30 seconds.

He paid to see the shrink of his choice. I'm sure if you go to the right doctor, you can walk out with prescriptions for hydrocodone, cialis, HGH, steroids, and medical marijuana, so Jack, your self appointed psych eval holds about as much water as an incontinent old man.

Like you.

History repeats itself.

This is just like that other time over a decade ago when he had an earlier dispute with the Bar and JT admitted himself to a shrink. He ended up with a settlement.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that he's a perfect losing streak when it comes to court cases and drafting bills.

I shopped his head out if anyone needed to use it. I also airbrushed out the text, and all reflections in his eyes and teeth. Nothing like a cold, emotionless picture of a psychopath.

He's a fundamentalist. It really explains everything.

fun·da·men·tal·ism (fŭn'də-měn'tl-ĭz'əm) Pronunciation Key
n.

1. A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism.

I never thought jack was crazy, he just seems like a guy who has to be right all the time. He'll will go to great lengths to prove it like when he says the FBI study shows no direct correlation violent games and behavior is wrong or any study that for that matter that doesn't agree with him. This just proves what a real threat this guy is to the games industry.

Well its quite well known that psychological profiling of a person can alter from person to person, as a lot of it is based on the personal professional opinion of the psychologist, and there isn't any really set guide to mental health.

The guy has serious issues with hyperbole, we know that. He also seems to have taken a personal crusade against Take-Two. Why he has a fixation on this particular company, when there are plenty of them out there to have a fixation on, then God knows. He seems to think parents have no responsibilities, and doesn't believe in the first amendment unless it suits him. Some of his beliefs aren't wrong, they are just misguided in the way he plans to tackle them. The issue at hand is the ability for a shop to sell mature content to a child of any age, not the mature content itself.

Lets be fair, at best we can call this guy a fundamentalist, and you can't spell it without "fun" or "mentalist".

To be serious, just for a moment, just a second, let's pretend he is an intelligent person. He is a lawyer. What does that mean?

He's the Prof. Moriarty to Phoenix Wright's Holmes.

Except replace brilliant and evil with senile and incredibly annoying. And he has nothing better to do..... God I feel bad for his kids.

This guy isn't crazy, he's just a jackass. He tries to impose his will on anybody that will listen. Giving him all this attention only gives him more confidence that his message is getting through to the gaming community.

If Destructoid and other gaming publications stopped referencing him entirely, he would disappear
