Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Show us your love of Steampunk and win this custom PC photo

Remember that sick, sick PC that we posted about a few months back that was being specially created by artist Jake Hildebrandt for the release of Damnation? Well, it's finally complete, and you can see pics of it from every angle on Jake's Flickr account. The PC inside the custom case was built by Falcon NW and sporting an Intel Core i7 965, 12 gigs DDR3 RAM, an X57 chipset motherboard, a Dual Radeon 4870X2 card, and 1 Terabyte of hard drive (5k worth of goodies!), this baby has more to offer than just good looks. Would you like to display this in your office?

Well, I can hardly believe I'm about to say this, but we are giving this beautiful PC away. The estimated value of a work of art like this is hard to put a finger on, but it's meaty. To get a chance to win this behemoth, I need you to show us in the comments what you think steampunk is. Dress up in your favorite garb. Show us something you made that fits the theme. Make a video of you and your friends. Take some cues from sites like this. Whatever, you do, make sure you're holding a Destructoid.com sign in your photo, video or art installation!

The contest will run through June 19th and is open to US/Canadian residents only. Sorry people, but this thing is heavy -- we can only ship it so far without fear of damage, and we can't have that. I wish the best of luck to all of you and thank you in advance for your participation: this is definitely the biggest contest we've ever had the pleasure of launching on Dtoid, and I hope to be able to award this in a month to the most impressive contestant ever. Godspeed!

SteamPunk is a steam powered science fiction and futuristic vision of the past that is full of invention, quality and Victorian era craftsmanship such as what was in visioned by Jules Verne. I love Steam Punk so much I built a working 8 foot computer that stands next to my desk. This is my entry for the Damnation Case contest.

Dana Mattocks, or steampunkfrankenstein, any chance you could give an example of non photoshopped work? If this is truely you, then just the computer is not all you have, why not show a neat picture of your entire steampunk collection? It's all fabulous work.

Unless, you aren't him and you are just greedy for a sweet computer that is comparable to the lovely device contained in Dana Mattocks' case.

Yes, I'm in love with SteamPunk. Here I have a large gear I used to build a frame with that is mounted to the wall next to the large computer. The Damnation case is so incredible !!! Here is another entry in hopes of winning this beautiful artwork by Jake Hildebrandt.

STEMAPUNKFRANKENSTIEN Not to force a bitter pill but i think only one entry should be allowed. If these really are things YOU have constructed and own the Bravo!

And well if not then well hmm I guess thats up to DESTRUCTOID to file 13 the entry.

Otherwise I side with ruiner, if you already have such a fantastic computer why take this one away from someone in the community... bleh bitter pills

I eat bitter pills for breakfast. They are a combination of ground coffee, unripened persimmons, and cocoa bean.

OM NOM NOM

I like the entries on this competition, I really do, but the only one that has a destructoid sign in is it the robotic spiders. Which are quite cool.

I wanted to confirm that I built the SteamPunk computer so I took another picture with me holding a Destructoid.com sign as requested by the contest. This picture shows my love for Steampunk with a steampunk computer, steampunk lamp (right side) and steampunk framed art (left side). SteamPunk is a steam powered science fiction and futuristic vision of the past that is full of invention, quality and Victorian era craftsmanship such as what was in visioned by Jules Verne.

I believe this contest is worth the effort for such a magnificent prize !!!
Since I did not paste or photoshop Destructoid.com onto this photo, perhaps this picture would make a better entry.

Steampunk is the awesome world we could have had if only steam power would have taken precedence over electricity. Probably one of the best examples of a steampunk world would be the movie Steamboy. Some other good ones are Full Metal Alchemist and City of Lost Children.

I'm no pro but hey, if you don't try you don't get anything right?

Here's my entry.

I kept it simple because Steampunk is nothing else than Steampunk. Its not the fact that there are twenty pressure valves and 40 meters of copper tubing that makes it what it is. Steampunk is Steampunk, it is a feeling, a separate world - universe - to itself alone. That is what makes it awesome.

This is a painting I created in honour of this contest. It was part of my ongoing "Symphony of Machines" series, and is executed in oil paint / oil bar and fluorescent gel-ink on canvas. It measures approximately 100 cm X 150 cm tall. Everything, including the digital LED's and the liquid crystal screens on the displays were completed by hand. The machine parts featured are depictions of actual antiquated mechanisms, which I salvaged from a scrapyard. The barcode in the bottom right is my signiture. It has taken me from the original time of the contest posting to complete the painting, entitled "Destructoid". I pray to the God of the Machine that my submission is enough to win me the contest computer.

Watson and Goodall's Resolution Reaching Hat for Business

The Resolution Reaching Hat is a decision-making aid, invented in 1905 by Neville Watson, creator of automata and Quentin Goodall, a milliner. It fooled the public for nine years.

The hat was created when the owner of a cotton mill asked for a device to help make decisions regarding his business. Goodall and Watson failed to produce an automaton capable of making calculated decisions. Instead, they produced an elaborate and convincing mechanical display of clockwork that generated an entirely random answer.

The hat's secret lay dormant until 1912 when the partners fell out and Goodall exposed the lie in anger.

Watch Watson & Goodall: The Nine Year Secret, a short documentary film on YouTube, or see more on the Museum of Lost Interactions website.

The hat is operated by selecting a value on each of the knobs, for things like potential risk, gain and a category, for example investment. When the button seen in the top image is pressed the hat pretends to think, the bulbs behind the gauge on the front flashing on and off for a few seconds, before settling on an answer. The hat uses Arduino and Pure Data. We exhibited these on campus and the best part was that some people really believed they were genuine articles. A visitor from Microsoft was so taken in by it nobody could tell him it was all fakery, and another vistor asked me if ours was an accurate reconstruction of the 'actual' Resolution Reaching Hat.

My team mate Jo and I created this for a project at Dundee University. The hat itself is still in our studio so I can't get a picture of myself and a Destructoid logo with it at the moment, but I'll try to get one and add it as soon as I can.

This is a self portrait I arranged for this contest. It is simply entitled "Depero" and is a dedication to Italian Fururist Fortunato Depero (1892 - 1960.) Depero, although not a primary member of the movement, was considered one of the most ardent and fanatical supporters of the Futurist ideal. This photograph was one of a series, intended to illustrate the archetypical Futurist emotional states. Rage, like war, was considered by hard line Futurists to be a cleansing force, a pure and unadultered human state. I humbly submit this photograph to the scrutiny of this contests judges.

Steampunk, I hear you callin'
But I can't take you home right now
Me and the boys are waitin'
And we just can't find the room
"None of these lyrics
Have anything to do with what I'm trying to say"
"But it's got a pretty melody"
and I get to try to win a computer
"That seems pretty cool"

Steampunk you are so awesome
And I want you so much
Your beatiful chassis
And your positive RAM
"And your whispering eye"

We don't have to be in the same room
But I'm still wanting you you
We can just be around each other
Like Mr. Squish and Red Faction Swag
Squish and Swag

Steampunk, I am so lonely without you
And I hope the shipping goes allright
You and me will be together
on June 19th.

Yep yep, I put quotes, so there can't be any plaigarism. Hope I didn't copy anyones idea, I didn't really real through the other comments. Good luck to everyone haha, and some of those pictures on the first page of posting are ridiculous.

Um, a lot of you seem to be misunderstanding the contest rules:

"Whatever, you do, make sure you're holding a Destructoid.com sign in your photo, video or art installation!"

You're not even going to be considered if you photoshop a picture of the Destructoid/logo. You need to be PHYSICALLY holding a sign, guys.

I nervously provide my entry here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZXS80eH92w

My initial thought was to do a wherethehellismatt.com type of thing. The problem was that time was short for me to travel the world, showing off the love for steampunk, Damnation, and destructoid. Fortunately, makerfaire timing was good. I put together a sign, went to Kinkos and got it laminated, then went with several families to makerfaire. There was plenty of steampunk goodness there (along with other awesomeness)! We had the sign on display, and had several people hold it for us (as you'll see in the video).

Jake, you're simply unbelievable. It is an incredible work of art. Thanks for sharing with us the behind the scenes too. I can't believe you can let it go. Destructoid.com I can't believe you can get such *awesomeness*!
