Show us your love of Steampunk and win this custom PC photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg
filed under: #PC

Remember that sick, sick PC that we posted about a few months back that was being specially created by artist Jake Hildebrandt for the release of Damnation? Well, it's finally complete, and you can see pics of it from every angle on Jake's Flickr account. The PC inside the custom case was built by Falcon NW and sporting an Intel Core i7 965, 12 gigs DDR3 RAM, an X57 chipset motherboard, a Dual Radeon 4870X2 card, and 1 Terabyte of hard drive (5k worth of goodies!), this baby has more to offer than just good looks. Would you like to display this in your office?

Well, I can hardly believe I'm about to say this, but we are giving this beautiful PC away. The estimated value of a work of art like this is hard to put a finger on, but it's meaty. To get a chance to win this behemoth, I need you to show us in the comments what you think steampunk is. Dress up in your favorite garb. Show us something you made that fits the theme. Make a video of you and your friends. Take some cues from sites like this. Whatever, you do, make sure you're holding a Destructoid.com sign in your photo, video or art installation!

The contest will run through June 19th and is open to US/Canadian residents only. Sorry people, but this thing is heavy -- we can only ship it so far without fear of damage, and we can't have that. I wish the best of luck to all of you and thank you in advance for your participation: this is definitely the biggest contest we've ever had the pleasure of launching on Dtoid, and I hope to be able to award this in a month to the most impressive contestant ever. Godspeed!

Oh my, truely epic tower(if you can call it that)you are going it away. Any idea what the dimensions are of that behemoth? I signed up for Neo Steam beta(atlus mmorpg) but that is about as much effort as I can put into this contest. Grats on who ever wins this.

I have a hardwood floor in my room. If I throw copper tubes all over it, does that count?

What if I take the pressure gauge off my pressure cooker and throw that in too? Do I win?

Just checking.

Is shipping really the reason Europe isn't eligible? I'd be more than happy to pay whatever extra is needed to ensure safe travel.

Just curious but if one were to produce a video for this and link it to a post would it be best to use Youtube? and how long should the video be assuming one had a lot of steam age things to show?

Damn, I got a good pic of my Steampunk Han Solo outfit, but I was not holding a Destructoid sign at the time. The outfit is currently on the other side of a floor with polyurethane that hasn't quite dried, and the belt buckle is currently in five pieces.

I probably won't be able to get away with badly 'shopping a sign in, would I?

I single handedly made* Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magik Obscura so you should give me the PC.

I totally made this.

Note: By single handedly made I mean I had nothing to do with development of the game but really enjoyed playing through as a dwarvish inventor.

Wehn i was a little boy i used to steal my grandpa's old used goggles and lenses and i pasted them together, creating heavy and unattractive "xray glasses, truth glasses and most usefully, sun glasses"
i did all these changes at his shop, oh how i miss him :(

If I was going to own something like this, I would have to make it. I would not be happy with myself if a friend asked me where I got it and I said "I won it in a competition, one where I dressed up as a mechanised urchin, no less."

All entries should be posted in the comments of this post.

I asked the company that is donating the PC about shipping and they said winners can pay for the shipping, but due to the weight and size it will probably cost a few hundred dollars to do so. If you guys have any other questions about it, shoot me an email at colette@destructoid.com.

Oh well....
I call it:
---------------------------------------------
"GunSpinner (scissor actually) a.k.a. The Clockwork Violin"
- (Music: Ezekiel Lewis - "Rider like me")
---------------------------------------------
I have no idea if this stands a chance.
Proof I have too much time on my hands.
DON'T do this at home you jacka^^es! Practice w/ a water gun at least!

This is the result of watching TOO many westerns.
It required a bit more finger dexterity than I remember.... ^_^
Keep in mind I had to relearn an old skill.
I misplaced my water gun somewhere..... (-,-)
Also, I have a fear of sharp pointy objects... T-T <<<<<<<<<<<<
I thought it was a little funny.
I decided to leave in the few screwups.
- Now I understand how circus folk are born. =D

Steampunk, what is it you ask? Well I shall let you in on a little secret. Steampunk is the marriage between all that is good in today's society with all the ideological mannerisms of the Victorian Era. It is a step back, into our future's past. It is what we all wish the world could be more like. We all wish that the world could be a little more elegant, a little more proper, a little more adventurous, and a little more weird. Today's society takes from us our own way to express ourselves in this hustle and bustle world, Steampunk is my way to escape it. I revel in the amazing art, clothing, and machinery created by my fellow idealists. If not for the beauty and artistry behind works such as this and many others, I do not believe that I would be as motivated as I am to pursue a career in engineering. So yes, Steampunk is a way to rebel, and yes it is a way to stand out, but even more than that, Steampunk is my muse.
