Plus its a handheld game, I'm sure the main ones on consoles will remain 3rd person!
So what if instead of viewing the back of your character's head now, you actually see down the gun barrel? Yeah, considering the small screen size I don't have any problem with this. Being able to get the laser over far off enemies on a bigger screen was hard enough. Without the zooming in on a small screen, I'm pretty sure there would be a problem.
Especially considering the argument that the tank controls make shit tense by making you create some distance between the enemy. On a small screen, aiming would be awful to shoot far off enemies.
Regarding the gameplay videos, I agree with some people here. It's just a zoomed version of RE4/5's perpective, I don't see the big issue here. About the tank controls, I think that, since this is a Mercenaries game, it's main focus is in action, so the moving-while-shooting it's not such a bad decision.
The thing is in the main RE games. RE5 got distanced too much from the previous REs
Personally, I think the more pressing problem is how Capcom plans on selling this as a retail title. Unless Nintendo has worked miracles with their online initiative (which is STILL a relative unknown), I'm not sure how much of an audience will arise to pay/play this type of game.
Which is precisely what's wrong with it, that it has become a 3rd person shooter. Puzzles, running the fuck away and the occasional knife to the knees is what Resident Evil should be about, not this over the shoulder, near infinite ammo bullshit.
I completely disagree. RE took steps to end its timidity and lock itself down as franchise that is just as big, if not bigger than the likes of Halo and Call of Duty (not necessarily in sales per se, but in notoriety for sure). Had it continued the old trend of fixed cameras, large backtracking sequences and tedious puzzles, the franchise would have long since faded into obscurity.
As for me and my personal opinion, I loved both RE4 and RE5 (RE4 more so) and I remain hopeful that the franchise continues to evolve the way it has been for the past few years.
That's probably why Revelations is returning to its roots then?
Fair dos to your opinion, but I think it's a shame some people seem to think that moving in the direction of Call of Duty or Halo, away from the actual survival horror genre and pandering to the masses with all this balls out action is "evolution".
Then again, I'm one of the few people who think there actually is some hope left for the survival horror genre if developers had the balls to actually do it properly (easier said than done, I guess) instead of giving Chris Redfield steroids, have him punch boulders into magma, have incredibly bad cover mechanics and pick up a wealth of ammo and weapons from the dissolving bodies of the least intimidating enemies in any RE game. Even the crows were more of a challenge.
Resident Evil 5 was a poor man's Gears of War/Dead Space. The franchise doesn't even know what it is anymore or where it's going. But if Revelations is anything to go by, I think going back to its roots is the right direction
At least its not wasting space on the RE Revelations card, so I can live with that.
I could be wrong, but that's what I see. Doesn't bother me too much, though it will make it even harder to see what's behind you or on your sides.
Perhaps this is a good thing? Give us a bit of movement but take away our peripheral vision? Sounds like a decent compromise of action and fear tactics.
Also, @Skribble,
Seconded. An RE2 remake would give me an aneurism of delight, if that's possible.
Dead Space doesn't cut it, awesome as it is.
Dead Space doesn't cut it, awesome as it is.
Either way, I'm still going to enjoy RE: The Mercenaries 3D, but I would prefer to play without the FPS feel. It just feels wrong.
And agreed about Dead Space. I have a lot of respect for the series for Dead Space 1 and Dead Space: Extraction, but neither have entered classic status in my brain. Maybe that will change with Dead Space 2 though.
What the fuck? Resident Evil is a survival horror series!
WAS a survival horror series. Did you really try to survive in RE4 or 5? No; you tried to maximize your ass kicking abilities. Not that I have a problem with it. And being a 3rd person shooter has nothing to do with being survival horror anyways. Dead Space(although I didn't really find it scary) is an example of that.
I'm serious about this too. :P
Just saying. Imagine the possibilities.
